My favorite restaurant in Atl !. This place is a great place to come with your friends to eat. Everytime my friends and I go out to eat, our first choice is always Papi's! The Saturday/ Sunday (entree) is our groups usual and it is so good. I recently tried the sandwiches and does are damn good as well. The place has an authentic cuban setting located on ponce. to go along with its authentic cuban food. The staff is always nice when we go there too!

Terrible management, service, and food. I have been to Papi's many times and always walked out a happy customer, except for the last time I was there. The portion serve was much less than previous times, when I question the waiter about that he pretty much told me that I was correct, and maybe the cook cut smaller portions this time. They gave me another dish with same portions. The manager (Teresa) was also notified, she told me my order was changed and there was nothing more they could do. Teresa was very strong with her words, never giving me the benefit of the doubt. I am very disappointed on how she handled this matter, and have no choice but to try another Cuban cuisine as there are plenty around. Word of advice to Papi's: keep your customers happy and they will be back again and again.

Decent Food but TERRIBLE Employees!. I went to the restaurant on Ponce de Leon today after hearing rave reviews from my friends about Papi's. Sure, the food is decent but not the best cuban I've ever had.

There were 4 people at the take out line and we didn't have a greeter for 10 minutes. There were 3 servers behind the counter serving food plates and chiming the "order ready" bell for servers to come and get their orders and that was mad chaos. Not one person recognized our presence for 10 minutes.

Finally, one of the patrons asked the people behind the counter if they could help us and they didn't speak English so they couldn't offer amy help. At this point, you would have thought that they would go get someone. They didn't. Two of the people waiting in line left. That left two of us (I was thinking, whew! because they were in front of me). When it got to my turn, I told the order taker about the long wait and that they lost two customers, she just shrugged her shoulders and took my order. She was obviously a higher level employee than the servers because she berated several employees in front of us. I don't speak Spanish but you could tell the conversation was heated!

After that, it took 20 minutes to get my order but in the meantime, I saw the same people who prepares all the orders serve about 30 dishes for the dine-in patrons. My experience was a bad take-out experience but it might be a better dine-in restaurant. But really, the food wasn't good enough to make me want to go back. There are too many great restaurants in Atlanta to go back to one in which you have had a bad experience.

Cuban flip.... The old Bait & Switch. Shame on me.

Went here for the first time for lunch on a weekday and tried to be low maintenance & low budget by just eating at the (empty) counter. Oh NO! you must eat downstairs, we have a table for you. So my plans of avoiding table svc are foiled, no big deal.

The waiter arrives and mentions that in addition to the daily lunch special, the Wednesday ropa vieja, we could also order the Friday & Saturday lunch specials as well, implying that they would be the same $6.99 specials price. So after confirming this I take him up on the Friday special, Steak w/onions, and enjoy a decent lunch. The bill arrives and there is NOT a special price, the waiter denies he said anything as such, and that today's Wednesday and that's the only day that would have a special price, just as the menu states. -So as the menu also implies, I could order anything else off of it @ regular price in addition to the Fri or Sat special dishes too, no? That's how menus work, right?!

So why mention just those two other plates? Clearly a ploy to make extra dollars from a stupid customer. Enjoy it Papi! It's the last one of mine you'll ever get. This little yanqui will never patronize you again and I'll tell all of my friends to never bother with you either.

good cuban spot. i originally wanted to post a response, but citysearch is limiting my characters, so you all get this instead. can you figure out to which? either way:

well, i must say this place must have upped its game. i just went there this past weekend and i must say the food was good. i had ropa vieja with moro and a salad, i must say that it was delicious. i'm used to thicker slices of beef in my ropa vieja (this was stringier, like what one would use to make vaca frita), but the taste was great. my girl had a vegetarian plate with yellow rice and black beans (seperate). her black beans were veggie, while my moro was not (i could taste the pork), but they both were delicious and seasoned well.

downsides: my natural mango juice was frozen mango thrown into a blender. i was expecting something a bit more fresh. i also wanted yuca frita, and they have yuca fries. not the same, but they were good. lastly, they took my girl's plate and before offering if she wanted it wrapped up, the busboy threw a used napkin on it.

the service was overall above par. i loved my server and thought she was very sweet and attentive. additionally, the place was very clean. i don't eat dessert and my companion forgot to order her arroz con leche, so no comment. we didn't pay until after we ate. i'll definitely go back though. i went in there looking for a cuban sandwich (and i'm really specific as to how it must be), so we'll see what happens upon my return.

Best Cuban in Atlanta. My family is Cuban and I grew up in Miami (Hialeah) eating the some of the best Cuban Food available. When my wife and I moved to Atlanta 10 years ago, she accompanied me on my search for Cuban Food that reminded me of home. After trying every place in Atlanta, I gave up and started cooking our own (which was not as 'good as home'). A few years ago I found Papi's by accident. Papi's is far and away the best Cuban food in town - just like home. I brought my father, who grew up in Cuba, there several months ago and he was surprised to find that quality of food outside of south florida - we now go there every time he is in town. Their black beans are fantastic and their Garbanzos are incredible. I have been going to Papi's at least once a week for the last 2 years. You can not beat the quality for the price. Try their Garlic Pork and Garbanzos (only available on Thurs) and i guarantee you will be back for more.

Anything but CUBAN. I've visited both the Ponce De Leon as well as the Stockbridge Papi's location and I can't tell which is worse. I'm Cuban and have lived both in Jersey and Miami which are Cuban meccas. The food at Papi's isn't completely horrible, but it's definately not Cuban. Their rice is hard and undercooked, their beans are condimented with just salt and peper, their sandwiches aren't authentic Cuban sandwiches; I mean if you want to recognize the effort, by all means, but its not CUBAN, not even close. Their desserts are bought made, therefore they have a store-bought taste that you can get from Publix. The Ponce De Leon location was dirty and the service was horrible. The Stockbridge location was new and well decorated but the food and service was just as bad as up north. We asked for a "malteada" which is a typical Cuban shake and the man at the register had no clue what we were talking about. You have to pay before you even get your food and I tried to give them a second chance by visiting their other location. The owner I heard is a doctor that owns these and I believe is in association with other doctors and I guess you can say he's "trying". For someone who's never had Cuban food before - this is alright but not for Cubans or Cuban-food-lovers.

Gives Cuban Food a Bad Name. Ate at Papi's today for the first and only time with my fiance. I just moved to the Atlanta area from Miami and was excited to find Cuban food around. Granted I was born and raised in Miami around some of the best Cuban food in the world, the food at Papi's is barely edible. This place is really just a fast food joint that happens to have a few tables and bar. You pre-order at the counter and someone brings you your food. There is no follow up service from a waiter or waitress. The menu is all sandwiches and side dishes with the exception of one daily entree. The menu alone was enough to make me suspicious since many really good Cuban dishes are not sandwiches. We ordered something pretty basic: two pan con bistecs (steak sandwiches) and yuca frita (fried yuca-similar to french fries). The sandwiches were closer to philly cheese steak sandwiches. There wasn't much meat, they were slathered with mayo and cheese, microwaved, and literally dripping in oil. Yuck! The yuca was barely recognizable because it was so over-fried. Nothing had very much flavor. The three people we saw working there were not friendly in the slightest. Two came to sweep the dining area in the 30 minutes we were there and ignored customers, shoving chairs around--one literally swept over my feet without so much as an "excuse me". On the way out, I decided to try their cafe con leche (coffee with milk) because people on this site had said it was good. What a mistake. The milk was burnt and there was enough sugar in there to make a diabetic keel over. It is true this place is relatively cheap. The sandwiches were each $5.99 and the yuca was maybe $2. The question is: How much do you want to pay for an upset stomach?

YUM!~. Papi's off of Ponce de leon/ Myrtle st is the best choice for Cuban food in Atlanta, earlier today I tried Coco Loco for my first time in Buckhead off of Sidney Marcus just because it's close to my work place. I tell you, there's just no comparison. Papi's is the BEST for cost and quality. I bought two lunch specials and only spent $20 when I visited Papi's, however I looked at Coco-Loco?s menu and it was outrageously priced (for what you get) so much so, I had to order a vegetarian plate just to stay in the same price range as Papi's and all I ordered were the basics: black beans, rice and plantains. Did I mention that I gave my boyfriend a bite of my food from Coco-Loco, he actually thought what he was about to eat was beef, because my plantains burnt like charcoal, who wants to pay for burnt food?! He spat his food out needless to say. THERE IS NO COMPARISON! Papi's is my pick because there's a story behind their struggle to succeed so, there's a passion/love that goes into their food. It is the Best in Atlanta and I'm saying that because it's well deserved. Their food is always yummy! If/when you go for your first time, go on a Friday/Saturday and order the daily special: Beef/ chicken or Pork , black beans, rice, sweet plantains, and a salad... it's about $8 but don't forget to add a Cuban Milkshake- Mango, Guava, etc. it will send your taste buds dancing happily and fully complete the Cuban dining experience!
