Amazing Food!

So, my husband and I went last night to Zapata in downtown Norcross. This ws our first time in the new location. What struck me as soon as we walked in was that the decor had gone down. On P'tree Pkwy they had great little tables, chairs and decoration on the walls. At this new place the tables and chairs were industrial grade cafeteria style. I'm not sure why they didn't transfer their old furniture and decor from the the previous restaurant location but clearly they must have their reasons.
The menu looked as if it had changed. They brought s chips & salsa which was something I don't remember from before. It scared me for a minute because I thought "uh oh", they've started catering to people who want a regular Mexican "El Azteca" dinner. We were ahppy to see our favorites were still on the menu. The Mole is to die for! Do you know how difficult it is to make Mole? And to do it well? It is amazing! The restaurant is one of our favorites. We absolutely love it and will return again and again....I hope that they do upgrade their furniture. It was so much nicer before.
- Pros: Mole!
- Cons: Tables and Chairs
Not as good as it was

First - ordered 2 top shelf margaritas with two different types of tequila. From our table, I saw the waiter (I don't think he was a bartender) fill two glasses 90% full with some sort of mixer and then top it off with one of the tequilas. He started to pour the same tequila into the second glass when he saw me watching and then hurried over to tell me they were out of Hornitos. I ordered a different tequila, but both margaritas tasted exactly the same and mostly like sweet and sour mix. When I ordered a second margarita I asked for Herrudura and he told me that they were out of that, but he had Hornitos.(?)
Second - I wanted to order dessert for my wife's birthday and asked for a menu. The waitress (they changed servers about halfway through the meal) said okay, started bussing some tables, swept the floor, spoke to another employee for a few minutes and then brought me a menu. While we waited for her to come back I heard the lady seated behind me say that her margarita had no alcohol in it and where did her waitress go to.
The food was not even close to the quality of what I have had in several other visits.
Maybe it was a bad night?
- Pros: Interesting food
- Cons: Bad service
Great venue for rehearsal dinner

We had our rehearsal dinner last month at Zapata in downtown Norcross and the food/ atmosphere was exceptional! I would highly recommend using it for parties of 70 or less, great value for your dollar at this upscale authentic Mexican gem. The owner (Mark) is very easy to work with and even arranged live music for no additonal cost...
