We are the latest victims of so called Madras Saravana's Hospitality.. They are worst than any other down graded restaurant in GA.. My recommendation is never visit this hotel again... Pass on this who ever asked for a visit to this restaurant. We do not want anyone to go to this restaurant ...
BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER..... – I've never had Indian quite like this before. The Poori was so flavorful and light that I just wanted to gobble up the bread plane, but the spicy green and white coconut and various curries were too good to ignore.
The place was packed but service was great. I love the trays, the simple art, the happy buzz of people and the amazing dishes. It was so hard not to stare at the beautiful concoctions on other people's table.
I can't wait to go back for more.
Seriously. I loved it all .
Not what it used to be !!! – In the past few years we have been to Sarvana Bhavan on numerous occasions and we liked it every single time. But had not been there in recent months so wanted to try out.
For appetizers we ordered Vada/Idli and main course - thali. No rocket science here. Thali is their best selling lunch/dinner platter. Almost 10 mins passed and there was no sign of Vada/Idli. I thought, may be they forgot so went to the manager and asked him whether the Vada is on? He said 2 mins saar...and boom... both appetizer and main course came at once. Proudly he said - fast service saar. We ignored. May be since we are all desis (Indians) sab chalta hai (anything goes). Anyway, we started out dinner. Oh by the way in the mean time there was this server who kept on bringing different items/food to our table. When we looked at him puzzled, he would ask- did you order this...i would say no...then he would go away and ask his manager and he would point him to the right table. This happened 3 times. But that's ok. Probably a new guy. In the mean time we made the mistake of inquiring about that day's special. Coconut water was one of the specials. So after making sure that it's from fresh coconut we order one glass. At that time we just finished our appetizer. Half way through out dinner - no sign of the coconut water...almost finished the dinner ...still no sign of coconut water. And suddenly the server appears and asks -- oh your coconut water...i'll get it right now...We politely declined. Didn't want to take the risk of waiting for another 10-15 mins.
Then i realized...it's not the place what it used to be. The service has gone down the drain. You have to wait for sometime to get your food. If there are shortage of servers then just let us know. It's not a big deal. When somebody orders food just let them know- that you are short of servers and there would be some delay. But messing up orders is not good for any restaurant business. Unless you are one of those "Chalta hai yaar - we are all desis" people(there are few here who don't mind below par service and given 4 stars) then it's ok. But it was a big disappointment.
Very horrible place. please don't go.
The staff does not what is on the menu and what would be ingredients.
They have sambar as a soup item over there!!!.
When i asked the manager he told us that whatever we have that you eat if you want to otherwise the door is there leave.
This is definitely not India and Indian people.
Madras Saravana Bhavan – I think reviewers 1 & 3 are whiners. I noticed Indians bringing in non-Indians as a show piece and the guys charge way too much. But I don't mind eating there occasionally. It is a decent looking place. Compare Sri Krishnal Villas at Global mall, you must be joking. When you walk and walk out of global mall you smell of curry mate.
The trouble is most Indians do not like other foods, specially the vegs. I don’t blame them. They think that Indian food is the best in the world. All I can tell them is be more adventurous and try others food also. You will like them eventually
Horrible – This is one of those restaurants where I have a hard time deciding which is worse : the food or the service. And admirably, with each visit I've noticed that they manage to repeatedly surpass themselves in both categories.
One of my pet peeves with this restaurant is the refusal to split a check. The reason : they dont have the time. I get this excuse even when I go at 3.30 PM when there are in all about 5 occupied tables. And how do you actually find out that they dont split checks? When you go to the counter to pay there is blink-and-you'll-miss tiny note surreptitiously placed behind the counter informing you that they will accept a maximum of two cards.
The food is nothing to rave about either. More often than not, the sambar causes me discomfort which makes me believe that the chef must be like the artist who gloats over his masterpiece for days until he decides he's had enough of it and needs to make a new painting. Yes folks, in my opinion the sambar you had today wasnt made today, or yesterday, or the day before....
In my opinion, the Tamilian fare at Shri Krishna Vilas inside Global Mall is far superior.
I've decided to not visit this restaurant again. I refuse to provide business to a restaurant that wants to scrimp on a measly couple of dollars of surcharge on a credit card and doesn't have the spine to admit it.
Great place to eat – we live closer to the North DeKalb area and Atlanta has many excellent Indian restaurants, but Madras is the best. How many things can you do with vegetables?? The preparations and spices, are out of this world. One of my favorite dishes is the Masala Dosai, a crepe filled with potatoes, spices, and other veggies but this time we tried alu jirra, paner tikka was awsum...it's really hard to find indian test in USA but now i think no worries...
Worst service – We took our friend yesterday and drove 30 miles because this used to our best vegetarian place. First of all we are told that they do not have ice (water was warm) we were like that is fine...
We ordered our food and stuff. Kids ordered dessert and my daughter who likes vanilla ice-cream wanted that. I asked if we can get one scoop because they serve 3 scoops which is 5 bucks. That waiter was like sorry we can not do this it is against our rule... I was like darn it you have warm water for us which is compromised and you can not give me one scoop... my other child ate chocolate ice-cream and I have no intention to feed my daughter with 3 scoop of junk...anyways now I will never go there and will never tell my co workers at CDC and EMORY to go there... I wish we had old Punjabi owner who used to smile us when we come in.
Horrid service unless you are Indian – I hate to write this, but I drove out of my way some distance to eat here as it was highly rated in Zagat's and elsewhere. Frankly, I have no idea if the food is any good or not as I left in disgust after being completely ignored for some time. It was obvious to me that the restaurant staff is concerned about serving Indian families only, as I observed as several Indian families being seated and their orders taken while I was still waiting and waiting. If you are Indian, I would expect that you would get great service, but if you are not Indian - head elsewhere. To top off my visit, I called to express my feelings. The response from the staff member who answered the phone? Just "OK". I will not be going back!
The very best South Indian place around... – Me and my husband just love this place and make it a point to visit it every weekend. I am very surprised that people talk about poor service. We couldnt ask for anything more - you are greeted with a smiling face at the counter, seated almost instantly because it has a huge seating capacity (once we saw a group of ~50 people being accommodated with no hassles), the waiter takes the order on his hand-held device and within minutes you get your food piping hot! We have tried mostly the South Indian food and at probably not so busy hours (i.e. around 11:30 am or later in the afternoon around 3:00 pm). They even bring you extra chutney, sambhar etc. without blinking an eyelid. Prices are very reasonable too. People who are criticizing the food are probably ordering North Indian food which is not their core competence. We have tried quite a few other places in Atlanta and dont know what we would have done about South Indian food if it wasnt for Sarvana Bhavan! :-)
(I am not even remotely associated with the restaurant management!!)
