Editorial Review for Panahar – by Philip Malkus

The Scene
Aside from a few vibrant silk sheers draped overhead, this Bangladeshi restaurant is a dead ringer for a '70s basement rec room, wood paneling and all. But the growing crowds don't come for the scenery. They come for the unusually gracious hospitality of Panahar's owner, Mirza Ameen, and his reasonably priced Indian and Bagladeshi fare.

The Food
The differences between Bangladeshi and Indian cuisines aren't readily apparent on the menu, which consists of standbys like spicy chicken vindaloo, saag paneer (spiced spinach with homemade cheese) and naan. But careful investigation unveils more intriguing dishes, including lamb sagwala, cooked in an herby green sauce, and voluptuous korma dishes like lamb or chicken. Aloo paratha, whole wheat bread stuffed with potatoes, is the carb of choice and there are plenty of vegetarian offerings. Be sure to order a side of the unique mango chutney.

this food is like HOME COOKING. this is as good as bengali/bangladeshi food gets. and the buffet is a steal. I suggest people ask for the lamb dish made with green mangoes that is off the menu, it is so good. the saag and veg items are also on point.

Pros: food, price, service

Cons: none

Food is fantastic - fresh, authentic and well-prepared. The warm nan bread goes with everything - come hungry and you won't be disappointed. Great service, great value.

Pros: Authentic cuisine

Cons: Could use more plate clearers at peak times
