Editorial Review for One. Midtown Kitchen – by John Kress
The Scene
Theatrical, urban and designed to impress, this striking restaurant is situated on the edge of Piedmont Park. An 80-foot curved counter frames a bustling open kitchen and leads to a towering wine display. Enormous windows offer views of the park and the Midtown skyline. The bar, crowded with the neighborhood's young movers and shakers, adds to the restaurant's celebratory buzz.
The Food
The menu centers on fresh, seasonal ingredients, with special emphasis on small plates--perfect for sampling between conversations and sips of red wine. A vegetable trio arrives packed with flavor, especially the buttery roasted cauliflower with raisins. Cold-water oysters make a nice starter. Tangy homemade pineapple sorbet makes for a snappy finish.

Had the calamari appertizer, which was very tender and served in tubular rather than tentacles or ring form. Complimentary bread assortment with white bean dip was delicious. My party had the seared tuna, salmon, duck, and the scallops. All dishes were good, but the scallops were the tastiest (big yet moist scallops nicely carmelized on the top and bottom, and not overcooked). Desserts of banana tart with banana ice cream in phyllo dough was a delicious combination of textures and temperatures, and not overly sweet. The atmopshere was stylish and modern, and of course, due to the hard surfaces, loud. But you will get loud with the rest of them after a few cocktails anyhow! All in all a pleasantly stylish place to eat and drink in Midtown with good food.
Pros: Food inventiveness and execution, good drink list
Cons: Loud, unisex bathrooms (I don't want to share the loo with men - they are messy!)

After hearing so much about this restaurant and finally having the opportunity to dine there, we were more then disappointed. Although the service was good, the food was flavorless and the portions were way to small for what you are paying. It seemed that everything we had from our appetizers to our main course had little to no seasoning. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for a actual dining experience. I would go to Ratbuns or Two Urban Licks before ever coming back to One Midtown Kitchen.
Pros: Service was good as well as the valet.
Cons: Flavorless foods
