Executive chef Tyler Williams has picked up where Top Chef Kevin Gillespie left off in one of Atlanta's premier white tablecloth restaurants. He continues the restaurants careful sourcing of area ingredients and makes good use of the space's centerpiece wood fired oven. Brian Stanger pulls of excellent craft cocktails and the wine list doesn't skip a beat.
Can I give them 6 stars??.
My fiancee and I had been wanting to try Woodfire for some time, and made reservations for a Saturday night. As with the other customers, I was contacted to ensure that we had no dietary restrictions or allergies. We were greeted at the door and escorted to our seats and greeted by our excellent server, Geoffrey.
I personally enjoy the ambiance of the restuarant. I think it's clean and contemporary with a cottage feel. Before this dining experience I had only sat at their bar before. I like that the bar and restaurant feel like two different settings. The music was not too loud, the lighting was great for date night, and it always helps to have a roaring fire on going in the oven which is visible from the dining room.
Service was exceptional. These are not your average servers, these people understand the food and where it comes from. Can't ask for better than that. We ended up doing the a-la-carte menu rather than the chef-tasing, which worked well for us. We love to taste each others meals, but enjoy our own. My fiancee, being a pork enthusiast like Top Chef Kevin Gillespie, was thrilled Kevin was working the grill Saturday night, and was sure to order the Pork Belly and the Pork Tenderloing, both were divine. I ordered the Halibut, and I can say it is one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had. This is coming from not only a Miami Beach native, but someone who has also fished and dined of the coast of Alaska (Homer, Halibut capital of the world!) many times. This halibut was perfectly cooked and flavored, and not to mention a VERY large piece of fish.
The restaurant has an excellent beverage selection as well. I love the "bartender's choice" idea, and he was spot on with my fiancee's choice of a "brown" cocktail. I had intended on ordering wine with my fish, but after having the "Farmer's Daughter" as my initial cocktail, I decided it was too good not to have another one!
The restuarant was aware of our Birthday & Anniversary celebration, and they brought us personalized menus, signed by the Top Chef himself. We both left completely stuffed and totally impressed. This will for sure be one of our date-night spots for a long time....
Perfection!. We experienced the utmost level of service, care and an amazing dining experience this past Saturday, 9/17. The ambience was very warm and inviting. We were seated in a quaint banquette layered with cozy pillows. Kristen greeted us and we immediately adored her! She was very friendly, knowledgeable and obviously takes great pride what she does. We were called the previous day to confirm our reservation, ask about any allergies, special requests or special occasions. The hostess took note that we were traveling from Nashville as Kristen greeted us and thanked us for visiting them while in Atlanta. Very personal experience. The food presentation was stunning from the amuse-bouche to the main courses. Not only were they incredibly pleasing to the eye but to the palate as well. Highlights for me were definitely the garlic butter served with the assortment of breads, the arugula salad with golden beets and watermelon radish, the peach and ginger amuse-bouche and my perfectly cooked wood-grilled duck breast. Our experience was PERFECTION in every way possible! Thank you Woodfire Grill staff and Kevin Gillespie for a memorable evening.
Great food outstanding service. We were able to get reservations same day using Open Table. This was our second visit and it was as good as we remember. We had the 5 course tasting and JR was our server and went out of his way to make sure our dietary needs were considered in each dish. Each course was carefully prepared and combination of items on the plate were thought through. I did like some more than others but the overall meal and service was over the top. Even the drink specials were unique. Each and every member of the staff thanked us and wanted to make sure we had an enjoyable evening. Great place for a special occasion or for the every day foodie.
Great Dinner !. The place was pretty good... But dinner was great ! I was really satisfied withe the servings. And I want to commend the staff of Woodfire for a job well done.
Overpriced/ small portions. So disappointed, I understand that most restaurants portions are out of control big, but this was the complete opposite. The portions were so tiny and sadly the flavors I expected to be orgasmic were borgasmic. I was so excited about going and ultimately disappointed, our entire party ended up at Fat Mats for dinner after our 400.00 appetizers at Woodfire. This will not be added to my favorite restaurants which include Bacchanalia, Rathbun's and Flip.
Great local restaurant. Wow. I watched Kevin on Top Chef and waited a month for this reservation... and I wasn't disappointed! We ordered the five-course tasting menu - there wasn't a single thing I would have changed or enhanced. It was simply fantastic. Even our waiter, Greg, was excellent. A memorable meal at a memorable restaurant. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant!
THE best!. 'Discovered' Woodfire about 9 months ago and we just keep going back. Exceptional service but what really makes it stand out is the incredible food. The flavors mix beautifully. We have always had an A+ dining experience.
Huge Prices, Tiny Portions. I don't mind small portions if the prices are reasonable but this place is ridiculous. $14 for ONE medium sized, average quality scallop!!! Are you kidding me? And $6 for a small bowl of "sunchokes" (a fancy name for what best I could tell were potatoes). My friend and I spent $60 each and left hungry. No wonder the place was empty on a Friday night!
Perfect Dinner.
A charming, cozy perfect place for a date or business dinner. Just right for big groups too. Great bar area. Great ambiance. Exceptional fresh food and matching wines.
Highly recommended.
