The Scene – It's clear from the moment you step off the Ponce de Leon Avenue sidewalk that MF is not your typical Atlanta sushi bar. From the lush techno beats that punctuate the conversations of hip Midtown diners to the sleek, sexy blond-wood fixtures, this place exudes cool. Staffers--dressed like a million bucks--work the room with admirable efficiency, especially considering space constraints when the crowd swells. – – The Food – Welcome to the city's most impressive selection of sashimi and sushi, with a few tempting appetizers thrown in for good measure. Editor's Tips

Save Money:
Visit at lunch, when specially priced sushi and sashimi combos are accompanied by miso soup and ginger salad.
Know Before You Go:
If your experience with sake has been limited to "hot" or "cold," MF is a great place to experiment. Raspberry and hazelnut varieties are among the 30-odd choices.
The Extras:
After dinner, slip next door to Krispy Kreme for piping-hot doughnuts.

  1. Actually, I wouldn't have a problem with the decor if they had the quality of fish like Blue Ribbon Sushi in NY but without the sushi quality to back it up, this restaurant sadly becomes yet another one of those overpriced, overhyped places with nothing b
  2. Great sushi, great atmosphere
  3. You will not find any restaurant that delivers high quality food, great service, and ambience like of MF Sushibar.
  4. Very stylist, good sushi, but the crowded, noisy, traffic-y, cramped atmosphere unfortunately compromises the dining experience.
  5. But it is a romantic place for adults.
  6. Highly recommend this unique romantic sushi restaurant!
  7. It was rated number five on one of Atlanta's most romantic places to dine.
  8. It's super expensive for what you get (try the $40 deluxe meal - you don't get but a morsel of the cheapest, crappiest fish), fish were not fresh, and the modern, hip, midtown decor just doesn't mesh well with traditional food like sushi.
  9. The ambiance was great, and everyone was very friendly.
  10. The ambiance was great - down to the smallest detail, but the food was nothing to write home about.
  11. I've always felt that ambiance can't make up for bad food, but great food can make up for almost anything.
  12. The place has a great feel to it, great atmosphere.
  13. The decor is nice, nothing to wet your pants over.
  14. The atmosphere was energetic, the tables were full and the host staff was accomodating for a walk-in.

  17. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the atmosphere is trendy and intimate.
  18. haha (probably hoping i would order booze) the ambience of the place was nice although parking can be a problem @ Ponce & Penn.

  21. The quality, presentation and ambience are absolutely impeccable.

  10. For those of us who actually care about, you know, the food, MF's is among, if not THE, best sushi in the Southeast.
  11. The restaurant was pretty, the service was good, and the sushi was very tasty, but it's no better than what they have at RuSan's or Kampai, and it's more expensive.

  35. Great sushi, great atmosphere
  36. The best experience here is the fish, and that becomes hidden the the so-so rolls with lettuce and avocado.
  37. You will not find any restaurant that delivers high quality food, great service, and ambience like of MF Sushibar.
  38. Service was not bad but food was not great.
  39. Chef with a mind set of most people are stupid about sushi.
  40. Very fresh, very tasty fish in a smaller but fashionable restaurant
  41. really felt people here came to enjoy something diffrent not for food.
  42. there are better places in town where the service, wait time and food are good.
  43. Skip the menu and ask the sushi-san to suggest a course.
  44. The fish here is phenomenal and one of the best things they have that not many other places offer is fresh grated wasabi root.
  45. awesome sushi
  46. MF has great fish and a wide variety of it.
  47. But every time, I come away with the same impression: food is fresh but nothing special, and the servers act haughty and as though you are putting them out.
  48. The atmosphere is shiek, the fish is super fresh, and the service is near perfect.
  49. MF Sushi is the absolute best sushi in Atlanta.

  52. extremely mediocre sushi for people who don't know any better
  53. Well, unfortunately the sushi weren't as great as I had expected !
  54. Anyone that compares MF to Nickiemoto's, RuSan's, etc. doesn't know good sushi.

  56. The sushi was very fresh and the place was really nice.
  57. If you want to pay for overpriced sushi and not be full or satisfied afterwards, then come here.

  59. the unforunate aspect was the food was good but the overall experience and treatment by the staff will keep me and many others away from this overly hyped fish bait.
  60. I'd like to rate lower than 2 stars but considering there are globs of mediocre sushi houses in ATL that ppl rave about but really deserve 1 star (i.e. Nickimoto, Harry & Sons, Rusans to name a few...)
  61. Both of us moved down from NY and heard a lot about MF and thought the sushi here would be outstanding.
  62. have never had sushi that was as fresh or as good as MF sushi.
  63. The service was mediocre at best and the quality of the sushi did not meet up to the price of the package.
  64. It's sad to see that people think this place is any good - it only means that they've never had good sushi before, and are unable to judge the quality of the fish.
  65. am an individual whom cannot eat seafood that is not fresh, i will get allergic and needs pills or injection to stop my shortage breathing and rashes.
  66. Waiting 45 minutes for your Rainbow should not be a memorable sushi dining experience.
  67. However, it's still our favorite sushi restaurant.
  68. Highly recommend this unique romantic sushi restaurant!

  70. know the fish, especially the sashimi, was very fresh and tasty.
  71. Each dish has its own unique flavor and the fishes are always fresh and delicious.
  72. the sushi was pretty good, not worth the wait (20 minutes for 3 nigiri orders, ridiculous).
  73. Our benchmark for great, consistent sushi in the area is Harry & Sons, and we found that this sushi was no better quality, but higher priced.
  74. Good sushi but kind of pretentious and the tables are really crowded in there so I wouldn't recommend it for a date or intimate dinner.
  75. Compared to other higher quality sushi restaurants, MF offers small rolls for expensive prices.
  76. Let me start by saying, I love Japanese food and would drive 20-25 miles to have some good sushi.
  77. The sushi is great, but it is ruined by the slow waitstaff and rude managers.
  78. It is in the upper price range but after having bad sushi in cheap places and getting sick, I am happy to pay for the fresh fish they fly in straight from Toyko and not out of some warehouse.

  89. the fish was fantastic.
  90. My favorite sushi
  91. The rolls were small to me, but I am also 220 pounds with a big appetite, so a lot of food items appear small to me.
  92. May not get the best sushi but certainly better than many and much of the crowd is Japanese.
  93. The sushi is great & The waitress is attentive,
  94. Excellent food, great atmosphere, passionate artists - a clear winner in Atlanta that I would put up against any sushi bar, anywhere.

  96. But to those who knows sushi, this place looks pretty and the food is so so.
  97. MF Sushi is one of the most satisfying sushi experiences I've had.
  98. But even after all this I think the fish was fresh and good, atmosphere was good, staff was good and I'll go back again with some girlfriends.
  99. Beyond that, there was nothing incredible about MF, just good sushi.
  100. can't say that i hated it, because the fish was really good, the sake selection was excellent, and the servers *were* actually nice -- but jeez.
  101. However, the sushi taste fresh and absolutely delicious, the service is good hence the driving is all worth it!
  102. The Ginger salad was a little old, Miso was excellent.

Too EXPENSIVE! POOR service and BAD location,,, scary!

by KaseyAnusitz

Firstly, I did not DISLIKE or HATE 'MF Sushi'. It has one of the BEST quality FISH experiences in Atlanta.

Ranking:

Fish Quality: 5 Stars Price: 1 star ,,, because the portions that they give out are SIGNIFICANTLY too small for what they are charging,,, it is BORDERLINE theft! Yes, it is! I am originally from San Francisco, have eaten Sushi since I was a kid, and there is ZERO justification for charging so much money for teeny tiny slices of fish; ABSOLUTELY NOT! For example, my bill for one person was $125.00 without the tip! For the same price in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, and even Miami, I would have spent $65 - max $75. Why must MF Sushi price gouge? DESPICABLE!

SERVICE: 1 star ,,, ZERO hot towels at 1900 hr in the evening. Restaurant OPENS at 1800 hrs and ZERO hot towels to wash your hands at the beginning of service and restaurant is empty? Extremely POOR!

LOCATION: 1 star,,, It's location on Ponce De Leon is VERY scary. It is a 5 - 6 blocks walk down off Peachtree Road. I felt very unsafe walking there at night. After I left the restaurant I thought, "Why must anyone spend $125.00 for a single person at all and especially in an area where one has to walk briskly to quickly get to safety?" No, UNACCEPTABLE!

CLEANLINESS: 1 star, bathroom was dirty at 1900 hrs in the evening. Had to go and wash my hands because there were not any hot towels.

Wine: 0 (ZERO) star. $16.00 for a cheap and overly sweet Plum Wine is BELLIGERENCE and THEFT! No, I will NOT be back. AMAZINGLY tasty Sushi; however, too many low points in the experience to warrant another visit. DISGUSTED!

Narcissism at its very best!

by paulkersey2

The Kinjo brothers sashay around like they are the prime ministers of Japan with their cheesy metrosexual attire, $5,000 designer eyeglass frames and ice cold facial expressions...someone needs to inform them that the Matrix is only a movie. This establishment exemplifies narcissism like I have never seen and the food is definitely not that great for what they are charging

I love to eat out. The food here was appetizing and indeed mouth-watering. It could have been a very gratifying experience for us if not for the wait staff, who ignored our requests for water and hurried us out.

Ok Sushi

by shert

We had heard a lot about this place from a friend and we went with them to try it. It was just ok. I ordered off the menu to get some real sushi rolls. They had a lot of "designer" rolls that crammed a ton of stuff in a roll. The Dragon roll here was actually quite good though.

OVERPRICED AND VERY SLOOOOW SERVICE

by nikegirlatl

My date & I ate here last night. Spent $130 for sushi that took over 1hour and 15 mins to arrive at my table. The tuna tar tar came just a few minutes shy of one hour AND THE PLACE was *NOT* busy!!! WTF.

We were not full afterwards and had to step two doors down to Krispy Kreme to actually be fulfilled. Both of us moved down from NY and heard a lot about MF and thought the sushi here would be outstanding. We got cheated. If you want to pay for overpriced sushi and not be full or satisfied afterwards, then come here. The service was mediocre at best and the quality of the sushi did not meet up to the price of the package. The owners should really start paying more attention to their reviews. Go to Tomo (Vinings) for better service and quality food.

  • Pros: Trendy atmosphere
  • Cons: Price did not meet up to quality & service
