Tips for Black Bear Tavern

I've been going to the Bear since it first opened 10 years ago and have always found its staff (including the owners) to be very friendly. The food is above average - great burgers, chicken wings are my favorite, but also lighter fare and daily specials - at a very good price, especially for this area of Atlanta. A lot of the regulars are from the local neighborhood, but I'd highly recomment the Bear for people visiting Piedmont Hospital or the Shepherd Spinal Center looking for a good lunch or dinner (or even a late night meal) just a two minute walk away.

OWNER LIKES PUT HANDS PATRONS THROAT. Attended last night for superbowl, the Owner grabbed my neck. I try press charges but cop was going take me jail as well for kicking bathroom door which I did due fact was not sure someone was in there for fact length of time I was waiting. So owner took upon himself to grab pm neck in front one witness and he gets away with it. I wanted let others customers know what kind of person this owner is. Know one should ever get treated like I did. Then top all off Owner had the guts ask me come back in guy you a drink, wow nice guy. I hoping this review finds his actions in someone eyes not justified

Neighborhood tavern-cum-restaurant has a broad menu and a loyal regular crowd.. In Short
Tucked away in one of Atlanta's ubiquitous strip malls somewhere in the no man's land between Buckhead and Midtown, this no-frills neighborhood watering hole draws a diverse crowd for drinks and distractions. Despite its name there is nothing outdoorsy about this place; really more of an Irish pub vibe. And boasting they serve "the best restaurant food a bar ever offered" might be stretching it a bit, but the options are on par for standard sandwiches and bar burgers. When not hosting University of Texas alumni for weekend football games, the Bear hugs a crowd of Georgia Tech students, erstwhile businessmen and a mixed bag of locals. On Friday and Saturday nights, note the mind-bending $3.50 half-shot "shorties" from the bar, perfect to get things started for a buzzy weekend.

It's In The Neighborhood! Girlz On The Heavy Side!. This is a nice little tavern, within walking distance from our home in South Buckhead. Food is average. Best just to stick with burger's. Sometimes the bartender is friendly, sometimes not. The women are especially friendly, but tend to be on the zoftig side. If that's your thing, come here.

The Bremuda Triangle. The food here is very good, especially the burgers. You better come hungry because the portions are huge. This is the type of bar that you will end up talking to half the people in there and make new friends. Before you know it your a regular. You can't just stop by for a drink or 2. You will end up staying till closing time. Guaranteed.

I love this place. The food and service is great. I'm usually there for at least one lunch and 2-3 evenings a week. Owners are usually there making sure you're taken care of and the staff is very friendly. The new lunch menu's very quick. You can call ahead with your order if you're in a hurry. Happy hour sees mostly regulars chatting at the bar. They have a relaxed dinner atmosphere earlier in the evening, then later they have live music on the weekends and it really gets going. Somebody mentioned parking--while the parallel parking is often full, they have a large free lot in back (drive behind the CVS) and there's practically always a space there. It can get a bit crowded after 10 on the weekends. Wednesdays seem to be a big night, too. The food specials are really exceptional. They pour a perfect Guinness and great liquor drinks, too.

New Kid in Town a Winner. On my recent visit to Black Bear Tavern, I found everything to be absolutely outstanding. The food was out of this world, and the service, contrary to what bheadbetty said, was amazing as well. Everyone was very friendly and wanted to get to know us because we were knew. I love the place, and will be back. Great atmosphere!!

New place in town. My first time to this new restaurant -slash -bar was a very good experience. The owners were there and seem like really nice people. The menu was solid and the drinks were even better. Some of the best pours in Buckhead, which is important since there are too many weak drinks in this part of town. I also sent some friends up there and they really enjoyed it. They said it was a great local bar and restaurant that this part of Buckhead needed...one of them went back for lunch and said it was good food and a was pretty busy for a new place! Looks like we may have a winner!
