Azul is now raging taco. Azul is now raging taco It has been totally redone and is connected to raging burrito. We reserved the taco space and had a ball at a private party.
Sunday night was great!!!. I stopped by Azul on Sunday because I was told that there was an event that was going on there. I was very suprised when I entered the place because the people looked very relaxed and the vibe was nice. I was so used to stuffy crowds and lousy service that I was shocked when the lady at the bar spoke to me nicely. I loved the outside patio and the electic mix of music that the DJs were playing. Did I mention that the drinks were really cheap. I even found myself on the dance floor a couple of times. I got a chance to speak with one of the event's promoters and she told me that they would be having events every 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. I will definitely be returning with my friends for the next event.
Maybe on a lighter night. I visited Azul for the 1st time on Friday night (showed up around 1 AM), and the place was pretty packed. However, there's a lot of space, so the crowd wasn't too bad. I spent most of my time at the back bar... and I don't have a single nice thing to say about it. The atmosphere was ok, but not anything extraordinary. The service was pretty bad. Even for a bar that wasn't crowded, I spent about 20 minutes just standing at the bar, waiting for service. Same went for attempting to pay. No thanks; plent of other bars in Decatur that are much better.
Minimal chic lounge plays it cool on Decatur Square..
The Scene
A pale-blue glow emanates from Azul's gauze-curtained windows, beckoning to those strolling by in Decatur Square. Inside, the whitewashed walls of the narrow space swim in soft light. A cushy black booth extends one entire side of the room and leads to a small bar. On shelves above the counter seating, fighting fish dart around small bowls. It seems like trip-hop or jazz music would set the mood, but you're more likely to be greeted by regular ol' rock. The staff is friendly, but regular patrons--from alterna to preppy--may not be so welcoming.
The Draw
While relaxed itself, Azul adds a swankier element to Decatur's laid-back, T-shirt-and-jeans pub scene. The dress code is anything goes. In fact, the less hip you look, the better. The bar doesn't get too crowded, so it's easy to get dibs on the cozy back nook reminiscent of a high-school make-out room.
