Editorial Review for AMC Theatres – by Mary Morley
In Short
In 1920, Edward Durwood opened a single-screen picture house in Kansas City, Mo. Over the next 40 years, his company went on to pioneer the use of four- and six-screen theaters. In 1969, the company incorporated as American Multi-Cinema Inc. in honor of its signature multiplexes. Now, the company is known for theaters with 14 or more screens, as well as innovations such as armrests with built-in cup holders, stadium seating with LoveSeats, ATM-style ticketing and online ticket purchasing.

I took my son and his friend the see Night at the Museum today. The theater was not as I expected. The upholstery on the seats were torn. My son asked the waitress when he placed his order when the food would be ready. She told him it will be ready when it gets ready. Later, she dropped a tray of leftover food on me and the boy in the seat next to me. Then, about 10 minutes later, she dropped another tray of food at the back of the theater where I think she was dumping leftover food in the trash. The theater is not that easy to find. The address says Peachtree Road but is behind a building that is on Peachtree Road. You park in the parking deck and walk down steps to get to the theater so allow extra time.
Pros: There are a lot of different kinds of foods on the menu.
Cons: It did not seem clean. It was dark even before the previews started.

The Buckhead Backlot is a special place. Don't go to expecting to have the same experience as a normal movie theater. There's no stadium seating, you sit in big chairs, at tables. You go to the backlot because you can get reasonably priced beer by the pitcher, and drink it during the movie. As such, people take advantage of that and sometimes get rowdy. If its opening night of a popular movie, expect it to be packed and expect to get there early if you want a seat, as the isn't anywhere near as much seating as a normal theater. People yell and shout and laugh and clap at the screen, waiters are walking around taking orders and serving food. I would compare it more to a drive-in movie in terms of atmosphere, though since it is still inside in a theater it still has that feel to it as well. If you want to go see a funny movie with friends and get drunk and eat chicken fingers and just have a good time, go to the backlot. If you want to seriously watch a movie, go to a normal movie theater.
Pros: Beer by the pitcher, decently priced food, wine
Cons: Limited seating, limited movies, limited times
