Tips for Breast Care Specialists

On top of all the complaints listed here you can add their billing department is rude and their services are not covered under screenings only diagnostic. This means if you go here for your annual screenings your health insurance will not cover it as now provided under Obamacare and each of us pays for in our monthly premiums. My advise is to stay away from this place!!!!!!

My experience here was quite possibly the worst experience of my life, LITERALY. Obviously this type of appointment is rather stressful to begin with, add to it the painful unnecessary pancake smushing of one’s breast, a 6 hour wait time for any type of result, unsympathetic, uncaring and downright rude staff, this is not the doctors office anyone should be going to period. I was informed that the appointment time was 3-4 hours, that I could handle, but after seeing several patients that arrived hours after I did that were seem and long gone before I even knew how my doctor was, was just more than I could handle. I was then informed, rather rudely, that my appointment was with the radiologist, the only radiologist that was working that day, so she was the only one looking at all the mammograms and ultrasounds for the entire office. Apparently the other doctor’s patients were more important than her own, since all of us that were still sitting in the waiting room in our robes 6 hours later were all scheduled with her. Of course as soon as I changed and prepared to leave I was told that she was just getting ready to call me back and that I was next in line, which I knew was not true because there were still several other patients of hers waiting. I will NEVER go here again and I highly recommend anyone even considering this office, DO NOT GO HERE

Excellent Doctors. While it is true that the wait is long (bring a book!), I would never trust my breast care to someone else. I had a lumpectomy and node biospy and Dr. Simpson was incredible. This was 21 months ago, and every time another doctor sees my scar, they want to know who did my surgery because it is so good. I've seen several different techs, doctors and PAs, and every one of them have been caring and professional.

Do NOT go here!!. My ob gyn recommended this group but my experience with the practice and physicians is subpar. I had trouble from the beginning with the hours and hours of waiting and then find out that they made a mistake do not take my insurance. Even though I also checked with my carrier and was told they were, but they were technically in the process of getting credentialing at the time of my procedure. Now I owe thousdands of dollars and I was treated like an animal. I was subjected to several additional "tests" that they felt were necessary. The staff are slow and they make mistakes, sometimes huge ones. My friend went here and she was misdiagnosed with cancer! These doctors are so afraid of lawsuits that they overdiagnosis to cover themselves at the expense of the patient. Their only worries are about their "production" for the day. Find a doctor who really cares about you and your health. Forget this place!

Not a Good Experience Going There. I was excited to be accepted to the group since I was under Medicare. I appreciated the fact that they would accept this insurance. However, there is no personal rapport going on in this group. It is way too big. One gets lost in the shuffle. The doctor that did my surgery I never saw again. I was always canceled at the last minute or scheduled with someone else who was available. There were many mixups and screwups. I have two friends that feel the same way. I am now in the process of establishing a new relationship with Dr. Laura Rivers, who had been in this group and has now departed...she is in the North Fulton Hospital Breast Cancer division and is head of it. (This has just been a recent development.) I am hoping that I find this a more personable experience and this other group was just too big. Think hard and twice about going here. And I have to say that the mammograms that I had there were the most painful I had ever had in my life. Excruciatingly so...I considered a second mastectomy on my other breast just so I did not have to go through that again.

Unbelievable. When I saw these bad reviews it was unbelievable to me. At Breast Care Specialists of Atlanta I have always been treated very well! I will touch on some things that I read from the diffreent reviews I read. For one ... where else are you going to go and get your results in the same day? Not many places in Georgia that I would imagine. If you notice something like a knot, lump what have you and you call them they will get you in immediately or atleast they did for me. If you are an established patient anyway. I don't know about If your not an established patient. My mother died of fast breast cancer at age 32 and perhaps If this place had been around back then she could have been saved (perhaps)! No, her doctors dilly dallied around sending her here and there and this doctor had to read this and then another one that and time just kept on passing by. Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe one of the patients their could be having a breakdown and the doctor is trying to console them and it may make your wait a little longer!? Oh my god people what is wrong with you? Hearded through like cattle!!!!! Do ya wanna be hearded through like cattle ladies? If they were hearding women through like cattle their would be a short waiting period everytime don't ya think? Do you want these specialists to take their time with you or would you seriously like to be hearded through like cattle? Also what does it matter what color the robes are? What type robes should they be handing out?

Most If not all the patients who are seen their have some sort of serious history with breast cancer. Women are lucky to get a foot in the door. One of these day's they may not take new patients on anymore and that would be sad for some unfortunate soul because these women doctors are specialists. When it comes to me and my health I don't mind the wait and I don't give a hoot what the reason is that their are delays.

I weight about 110 pound's and I haven't froze to death in their yet! If you choose to go back then maybe you should bring a sweater. Their is so much equipment in their and computers they have to keep the ac low or everyone would be burning up and the equipment would breakdown!

You cannot throw off on everyone who works their because one mammography tech was rough on you. You should address this issue in the right manner. I doubt they'd keep someone on staff for long If the tech was being rough with everyone.

Unfortunate breast care. Along with other reviewers, this practice has unacceptable wait times. I have been there for 4 visits, one emergency procedure and the rest were special scans. The wait times are absurd. No one has mentioned the temperature in the various stages of wait rooms, but it is ridiculously cold. Regardless of these irritations, my last visit was indeed my last. The mammography technician was unspeakably rough and unprofessional, leaving me bruised. I would never have thought this because this practice is very popular and seemingly the premier practice in Atlanta. The bruising was such that the my ultra-sound tech and even my doctor exclaimed that I had really been "smushed". If you are looking for a very long wait and an impersonal, perhaps unnecessarily painful breast care evaluation, this place is for you.

Serious breast problems - THIS is where you want to go. All of the physicians in this practice have attended well respected schools and are highly regarded in their field of practice; their patients include people who have come here from all over the world - they are wonderful, skilled doctors who are also very kind and compassionate.

It IS true that the wait times there can be almost intolerable; I feel this is due to a variety of factors, #1 being that I think that they do overschedule. That said, the practice is a diagnostic facility; so they find your results WHILE you are there, rather than your having to wait a week or more to receive them - therefore, obviously, you are going to have to return to a waiting area after a procedure and then go back in to see the doctor. Also, the doctors I dealt with, Dr. Murphy and Dr. Steinhaus, will spend as much time as you want to answer all questions you have regarding your condition, procedures, outlook, etc. They do not act impatient or as if they need to hurry on to another patient until they see that you understand and are comfortable with the information, no matter how many questions you might ask. Depending on whatever issues they might be dealing with on any given day, this could certainly delay their ability to "move on" to the next patient. If I had had to wait an extra amount of time because they were in the next room having to give another patient some very bad news, then so be it - I would prefer to know that they are giving each patient all the time that person needs.

Since they do spend more time with a patient than most physicians do, I do wish that they would look into cutting back a bit with their scheduling.

I highly recommend this practice to anyone who has any sort of serious breast problems.

AVOID THEM!. Rating: ZERO STARS - This office asks you to show up 30 minutes early for your appointment. Don't bother. Your appointment time is irrelevant to them. You will wait 2-3 hours or more to be seen. There will be no explanation of why the appointment has not started on time. No hint of an apology either. When staff and doctors are questioned about why patients are made to wait unacceptably long without explanation - e.g. 2 hours past appointment time, expect the following: (1) be lectured about how the facility is a diagnostic facility and therefore appointments take a long time, apparently pushing all other appointments back on a routine basis; (2) be told the doctor will see you in 5 minutes - don't believe this; (3) receive no apology or explanation from the doctor about why the office seemingly has no regard for the appointment times it sets for its patients; (4) a holier-than-thou guilt-trip from a doctor who asserts that they are beyond reproach because they are dedicated and they **treat cancer patients**; or a doctor who refuses to treat you or perform a procedure because your assertion that the office disrespects its patients with unacceptably long wait times indicates "a lack of trust" for the doctor. It remains one of the great black eyes on the medical profession that some private doctor's practices refuse to book appointments according to how many patients/procedures they can reasonably handle each day. This particular facility is not an emergency room, is not a free public health clinic taking all comers, and has experience enough to block an appointment schedule according to various types of patient: incoming diagnosis; follow-up; limited procedure. Even a restaurant can manage its tables and reservations almost seamlessly. Why should we expect less of this medical practice? I could not show up at this practice unannounced and expect treatment. Similarly, where I've made an appointment I have every right to expect them to honor that given the occasional medical exigency. Expect to encounter various repeat patients in waiting rooms who will tell you tales of woe - wait times up to 5 hours. Expect to also encounter livid relatives or caretakers in the check-out area inquiring angrily about the multiple hours their loved one has spent behind the door without explanation. Do yourself a favor and get another referral from your doctor. You do not have to go here and should vote with your feet. Patients should be respected. Atlanta is a big city with lots of incredible specialists, including breast surgeons who respect your time and treat you with professionalism and the right attitude. If you have a large knitting project and enjoy knitting braless while wearing a blue gown, or are unemployed, this is the perfect place for you. In all seriousness, this practice should engage a consultant to conduct a searching patient satisfaction poll and dedicate itself to acting on the areas for improvement that will be quite evident in the patient feedback results.

Treated like cows. This group has an MRI Ultrasound machine -- only 14 in the U.S. had one when I had my MRI ultrasound in November 2007. That is a plus. The staff the doctors have hired leave much to be desired. Patients are shuffled through like cows dressed in navy blue gowns -- all awaiting news that could be devastating. My surgeon was usually in a big hurry -- and I know why! Too many people waiting in the wings. Their expertise can be trusted; the way in which patients are treated? Not great.
