“This very casual restaurant is good for a quick and inexpensive meal.”
Always busy, always solid. La Fonda serves up traditional Mexican and other Latin american fare and has been for years. I usually stick with the tacos, and a margarita is a must!
Plenty of reasons why this Latin eatery is a local staple.. House-made tortilla chips and amazingly fresh-tasting salsa is just the beginning of what this multiple-location, pan-Latin eatery has to offer. Amidst a festive and bustling atmosphere of indoor and outdoor seating, the vibrant kitchen quickly serves up amazing skillets of paella del mar, arroz con pollo, and large, stuffed quesadillas with bright yellow rice and black beans. Entrees are huge, so ration the chips and split an order of crispy, salty tostones or sweet maduros to get your meal started. Grilled tilapia tacos have a tangy sauce drizzled on top that adds great zest, and the Cuban sandwich is always a crowd pleaser. Despite the easy-to-please food variety, tequila tends to be poured half-assed. It may be best to try the mojitos or just stick with a couple Negro Modelos.
Rude staff and "Don't Care" service.
We were very surprised by the way our family was treated on a busy Sunday evening. Outdoor tables were full when our group fo 6 walked up. We asked the waiters for a table outside and were told we would be next in line. 20 minutes later we had no table and the wait staff had made no attempt to try and put together tables for our group.
During our wait a significant number of diners in parties of 2 and 4 had been seated at tables where we could have been seated. When we brought this to the staffs attention we got a great deal of "I don't care" and a double dose of "go get lost". When we were finally seated at an in door table, the ambient noise was too loud for conversations across the table.
After being seated, a "new" waiter took our food and drink orders and then disappeared. We did not see him again as other staff members brought drinks and chips to the table. After a lengthy wait, during which all our drinks went dry (including glasses of water), our waiter finally re- appeared. We asked for new drinks, water and chips and then did not see our "waiter" again until he brought our check.
It was a busy night but the overall attitude of "I don't give a flip" made our evening a great disappointment.
Just ok. I agree with the earlier reviewer: their cuban sandwich is really good, and their chips and salsa and guacamole is good too, but that's about it.
Always a great experience!. We've eaten here about 4 times in the last few months. Last time was in May07. We arrived around lunch time as many other people starting coming in. We had no problem finding a good seat. Chips and salsa were immediately put on our table (I think the servers grab the chips and salsa when they see you get out of the car). I ordered the Veggie Paella. Huge portion of food for the price. It was very tasty, just a little too much curry for my liking but still it was very good! The servers work the place as a team so you are never left wanting for anything.
Love the chicken tacos. Great margaritas and chicken tacos...seriously...must try the chicken tacos. Rest of the food is slightly above average, but the chicken tacos (with their magic sauce) were the best I've ever had. Refreshing choice of cuban sandwiches as well.
Go with the Cuban. The cuban sandwiches here are excellent. Parking is sometimes a problem and the atmosphere is not all that exciting, but the food is good and it's worth a visit.
Patio, margaritas, and good guac!. Nice casual place, especially to sit outside on a warm evening. Good and inexpensive margaritas! The food is pretty good, being from Denver I have had SW pretty authentic stuff. Salsa is great and guac has been excellent and fresh the evenings I have been there.
