Tips for Brown Auto Service

November 03, 2012

This place is a joke. Brought my car in for a rear brake change and an engine hesitation issue. After a full day of supposedly working on it they claimed they only got one side of the brakes done I asked for my car back and changed the brakes myself turns out none of the brakes were ever changed. He just tried acting like he did half the brakes so that I'd feel bad and let him finish half the job. As far as the engine hesitation issue he/they wanted to replace all the spark plugs and wires and then see where it needed to go. I went to advanced auto and it turned out to be a bad spark plug. I could do all the work on my car, but I was in a time sensitive situation. I have no problem paying someone to work on my car but at least be honest with the work you are going to be doing and don't just throw parts at a problem hoping to fix it.

These guys will take you for a ride..... I took my car to them a couple of times while I was in college. The first time, they were quick and efficient; exactly what you're looking for when you're a student with a tight budget and a busy schedule. They were a natural decision when my air conked out on my 2001 Hyundai Sonata, and I needed a nail removed from the back right tire. They removed the nail and supposedly checked for leaks in my AC, then called saying all I would need was to recharge the frion. 2 months later, my air was out again and my transmission was skipping. When I dropped it on, they said there were leaks on the AC system that would cost over $1,000.00 to fix and that there was a problem with my speed sensor and catalytic converter. $1500 later (to fix the speed and CC), and 2 weeks after dropping it off (and several promises that it would be finished within 2 days), I picked it up only to find that the airbag light was on. When I inquired about it (because it hadn't been on when I dropped it off), the guy argued with me, saying that it was on when he got into the car and he was wondering why I hadn't said anything when I dropped it off. My car has since been dropped off at a reliable shop in FL and the guy there said that it looked like someone had been working on the transmission. Funny since they shouldn't have had anything to do with that and they were the only people go touch my car. Now it's being referred out to a shop. Since these jokers are close to Oglethorpe University, I wanted to be sure that none of the students, staff or faculty are taken for the same ride (no pun intended) that I was and they never receive any business other than an oil change. Hopefully they don't screw that up.

Untrustworthy. They put non ABS brakes on my truck and claimed my abs light that came on after their work was something unrelated. When I discovered their under-parting, they claimed they couldn't find my paperwork because the business had been purchased (it hadn't.) When I finally found the paperwork myself they refused to put on the right pads because I had discovered their crappy workmanship too late. Run, run away!
