The Scene – Drawn curtains in the windows puzzle first-timers, but a steady stream of locals enters this hidden restaurant with confidence. The tidy dining room is simply decorated with hanging fabrics and Indian bric-a-brac. Servers are efficient and self-assured. – – The Food – What this typical Indian fare lacks in innovation, it makes up for with execution. Saag paneer (spinach with fresh cheese), smoky chicken tikka masala and aloo paratha (whole-wheat griddle bread stuffed with potatoes and peas) are faithfully rendered classics. Dal makni (lentils in a buttery,…

Himalayas is on our Favoriate list

by s.ccabrera at Citysearch

We have gone to this restaurant for over 15 years and it is almost always excellent. The prices are very fair and They include rice along with poppadom with the meal unlike so many other Indian restaurants. I am shocked that someone would expect something free because they saw a critter. This is the south and those little things are not uncommon at any restaurant. It is bad when everyone is always expecting something free for breathing. Anyhow i love this place and we have taken several friends over the years and they return as well. Give them a try and you will love it. Do not be turned off by the shabby shopping center

  • Pros: Consistant,Personable and very fair pricing
  • Cons: Non that I can think of

Overrated

After reading the great reviews and seeing this restaurant on the "Best of Citysearch" my husband and I went there.

The food was really good but in the middle of dinner my husband noticed a "critter" (Citysearch won't allow me to type the appropriate name of the thing) behind the painting on the wall right next to us. He tried to handle it himself without causing a stir, then quietly told the wait staff trying not to cause a stir in the restaurant. It wasn't until I was hesitant to sit down at the same table again that they finally offered us a new table. All this would have been fine had they only offered us something to make up for it, like a small discount... Granted my husband never specifically asked for a discount but in a situation like that it's almost expected. We still had to pay full price for a dinner we were not able to fully enjoy. They could have gotten a pair of pretty happy customers out of it, instead we will never go back there again.

"Stuff" happens, they just didn't handle it well.

Pretty Good place!

by WhoMe12334 at Citysearch

I really love the food at this place. I have been a regular customer for a few years now and in general I would recommend this place. Unfortuantely they really could use some lessons in customer service. When I first started going I didn't really feel all that welcome and it seemed almost like the staff didn't like me. After going more frequently (couldn't give up the food) though I started talking to them and the guys are actually pretty friendly. I don't they are just uncomfortable at the beginning but I think are pretty decent once you get to know them. They go out of their way to make me special dishes now, and have just been really nice.

Overall though I think it's worth it, especially now.
