I Just Had To Write A Review – I just had to write a review because I really think that people should know that there is a school in Atlanta that will teach you everything you need to know and some.
Gwinnett College Sandy Springs has the most awesome teachers, Crewes, Carl, Irwin, and Jason to name a few will make sure that what you learn sticks!
Talk about interactive, I am learning sometimes and don't even realize it because their classes are so engaging, current, and relevant.
The staff are always very helpful, and yes Ty to be a young man with sooooo many hats never makes you feel like an outcast or that you are bothering him. He gets the job done.
I am currently in the MT program, and I would recommend this school to anyone who is serious about learning and want the best school in town to learn it.
Boy are you guys in for a suprise – Look i have been in the field for a while and i will be the first to tell anyone that this is the school to go to. I have worked and received massages from other grads and they do not compare!!! They usually don't know what they are doing!!! Rising Spirit students have a far better education than any other student coming from other schools. Hands down!
Now ASM students are usually taught how to talk the talk. They take specialized courses that do not focus on modality but more on how to behave and what to expect. How ever they do not know NMT and other massage modalities that are in my oppinion what you need to know to help manage pain in medical settings.
Clock hour schools are very stressful. When you punch a clock, like every other machine it will mess you up if you rely on it. I am currently enrolled in a clock hour school and it sucks!!!! I am constantly hearing complaints about hours not being counted and classes having to be taken over and credits not getting counted!!! It is a stress i never had to worry about!! I personally have had a hard time with it and I work my but off!!!
News FLASH NO TRADE SCHOOL TRANSFERS!!!! They want you to do things there way! and want your full money! if you went to another community collage that offers it, they probably will!
DON"T PLAN ON DOING MASSAGE FOR A LIVING!!! Yes i said it. Right now we are being priced out by Massage Envy and Groupon nuts!! It is slowly becoming a minimum wage job no matter what school you go to or what your back ground is. Most places offer Swedish and deep tissue any other modality is not offered or heard of. Nobody right now wants to pay a lot for a massage and specials are everywhere. I do not know one therapist making over $35 a year and that is the hustlers. Don’t expect steady money. Half the year you will starve.
Doctors do not respect you because of all the BS out there!!!
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE!! You will be nationally certified, not just state certified is what you want!!!!
No Good – I asked before I started if my credits would transfer to another school, because my husband and I were planning on moving in the next year, and I wanted to make sure that my time here would not be wasted. "Yes, your credits will transfer, as long as it's to another Massage School," is what I was told. Well, apparently they will tell you whatever they can to get you in the door and take your money, because this is not true. I tried 3 different Massage Schools in the area I now live in, and none of them would accept transferred credits. So here I am, with 6 months of massage therapy training, yet I've had to start over at square 1. Not to mention the $5,000 that I wasted. And the time that I did spend here, was not satisfactory at all :( The "small, one-on-one" classes had 20+ people in them, and one of my instructors was simply the worst teacher I had ever had. I've learned more in 4 weeks from the instructors that i have now, than I did in 6 months at Gwinnett College. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
We very clearly state in our catalog that "Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs does not imply, promise, or guarantee transferability of credits earned while in pursuit of graduation." This is stated this way because whether a college accepts transfer credits from another college is completely determined on what the accepting college's policies and procedures are. Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs has no way of knowing what another college's policies are and thus have no way to state one way or another if or how many credits will transfer.
We also tell students about this during orientation because many students either want to try and transfer credits into our college or plan on furthering education after graduating from our school.
We would encourage this student to speak to her current school and ask why her credits did not transfer. If needed, one of our administrative staff will be happy to speak with the current institution to see if we may be able to help out in any way.
Wow! – Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs is an outstanding place!!!!
The instructors are literally amazing, like for real. I learned more than I ever thought possible. Carl Christie is extremely knowledgeable and fun to learn with. Scott Crewes is perhaps one of the most interactive, engaging teachers I have ever been in the classroom with. Dr. Ellis really takes education to the next level, I still have notes taken from his class that I will forever keep, his information is golden, priceless.
Gwinnett has a great, small campus environment with caring administrative staff that want you to succeed. Ty Davis, one of the upper level administrators, is the BEST, I literally have never met a person with such charisma, passion for education, and a love for the students. I felt like a member of his family from day one.
The President of the school is a man of true integrity and compassion. He is also one of the most approachable people I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. He is more like a good neighbor than the president of a college.
I have nothing but positive things to say about the rest of the Administrative staff as well. Bob in job placement was diligent and professional in getting me job interviews, he even helped me fine tune my resume to help my chances. Nick in admissions was so helpful and nice, he even helped me find apartments in the area so I could be closer to school. Miss Myra at the front desk is one of the sweetest human beings I have ever met.
I have nothing but good things to say about my time at Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs and will always have fond memories. My education was second to none, the skills and knowledge I obtained there have helped me to succeed in a career that I love!!! I never could have done it without Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs.
An awesome school! – I can't help but notice some complaints about Gwinnett College/Rising Spirit on here. Here's my take on some of those specific complaints. They don't "give" you a table and neither do any of the other schools. The other schools charge you for them and add it to your tuition, not giving you the option to shop for the one you want to buy (which will last a huge majority of your career). Instead they have several to offer if you choose to buy them through the school, but can buy a table off amazon or ebay if you want. Heck, a yard sale for that matter....instead of racking up charges on your bill to the college. Which is again, thousands less than the other "massage schools" in the Atlanta area!
Having to bring your own sheets and cream to clinic....it's not like the school keeps them when you leave! You will have your sheets to start your career with! BTW Gwinnett College lets you take your clients with you from clinic when you graduate, how awesome! I wasn't forced to use a cream that I was allergic to or didn't like....I was able to bring what I wanted to use. It's the real world, buck up! I happily prefer to pay for a few sheet sets and cream than pay for the malpractice type insurance that the school has to pay for to have STUDENTS work on real clients. Ya kinda can't buy your own insurance until you have graduated, taken the national and have a business license. Thank you Mr. Davis for paying for my insurance! Oh and thank you for paying for the tv ads that got clients in the clinic for me. No telling what that cost either.
If you are serious about becoming a massage therapist and want an awesome top notch education I highly suggest you compare this school to the rest before you pick. Then you will see first hand what a great decision you made. I'm sad that school is over for me and will greatly miss it.
HIDDEN REQUIREMENTS! – Before you enroll make sure to ask questions especially regarding their Clinic Class. Yes it is a class which you can fail or pass. The class requires that you have 15 massage hours per quarter . And if you don't make the 15 hour quota you fail the class. You DO NOT receive clock hours and the massage hours are NOT cumulative. If you fail the class you have to pay to retake. Also they are NOT responsible for getting you clients, the response to this is that they are teaching you how it will be in the "real world". Even though this is a class they only supply you with a room and bed. You have to bring your own sheets and lotions however they will rent you sheets for $5.00. I checked around and no other massage schools handle thier clinic in this manner. Most places have cumulative clock hours and it's not based on how many massage you do. Please ask questions.
BE VERY AWARE!!! – If you value your money do not attend this school. They are bunch of money hungry people at this school. They charge all these fees to your account then they take out this ridiculous student loan for you. They charge you graduation fees before you even graduate..lol Everything is so secretive at this school, they act like they are some FBI or something. No qualified teachers, no direct curiculum, they just put you in any classes that they have open at the time you enroll. all they care about is gettin you to sign those finacial ai papers, then everything goes down hill. Please be aware. I was there for 3 months and i couldnt wait to leave.
We as a school work hard to help all of our students and graduates be successful. If those individuals are successful, it means that we are doing our jobs--and doing them well. We are sorry this poster feels this way, and we ask our students to please come speak with our staff if they have any questions or concerns.
Going back to school is a big committment to take on, and if our students aren't at a place where they can attend and be successful that's OK, because we as a school will welcome those students back with open arms when the time comes. Fortunately, most of our students are serious about making a life change and want to be more successful in the future than in the past.
We are good at what we do, and work hard to make sure you are too.
beware – This school did not transfer my credits as I was told. I was charged more loan and Financial aid money and had to take classes I had already taken. They hand write their ledgers an even change them. Watch your pocketbook or loan debt. They seem only interested in MONEY and these types of schools are on every corner. Do your research. Your classes will never be accepted at an affordable State school because this school is not accepted by regional state colleges yet the expensive for profit schools will take your money again.

We encourage all of our students who have concerns to meet with the administrative offices and we encourage this student to do the same. Our offices are open 9:00AM to 7:00PM Monday through Friday.
We are good at working with our students and their concerns as evidenced by our most recent accreditation visit from November 2009 where 100% of students polled were pleased with their choice to attend Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs.
Great Massage for the Price! – I had my first massage at the Gwinnett Massage School and it was amazing. The student really listened to what was bothering me and focused on that. I really liked that this is a full 60 min massage not a 50 min like normal places. This is not a fancy place; expect to just have a great massage and leave feeling like a new person. I am definitely going back regularly!!!
Great Massage - will definitely recommend to everyone – Went and received a massage here from recommendation from friend. I was told to not be ready for a spa experience because thats not what the school is about. However, I received one of the best massages I have ever received. I scheduled a 90-minute relaxation massage, and when I got there my therapist did wonders on my body (and it was only $55!). I was hurting in more places than I realized, and she worked those kinks out. Highly recommended for everyone wanting a true massage and not a fluff-and-buff.
I found them by googling Rising Spirit Institute.
We have recently moved to 6690 Roswell Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 as well as changed our name from Rising Spirit Institute to Gwinnett College - Sandy Springs.
In response to Mr. Crown's cons, that is something I'm happy to say we have fixed. Like many massage schools, our old location had bays separated by curtains to give privacy. We're happy to say that in our new location, we have rooms built out for your privacy and convenience when receiving a massage! This is a great change for us, and we hope you enjoy it as well!
