The Scene – You can tell the Barbecue Kitchen is a good pork palace by the mass of folks slurping down sweet tea and wiping the sweat off their brows. The place looks like a converted breakfast house. The ceilings are high and the wood veneer booths scratched. The ladies work hard keeping your plastic quart glass full. – – The Food – A mild, hickory-smoked pulled pork barbecue is the main attraction. The meat comes in tender strips from the slow cookers in back and is served with a thick, tangy red sauce. The platter comes with nearly a pound of pork and three sides.…

Every time we visit Atlanta we have to visit Mildred Winfrey at the Barbecue Kitchen in College Park. Don't let the name of the restaurant fool you. This place has down home cooking for every meal of the day. The prices are down home too. If the food don't make you smile, Ms Mildred will. Ms Mildred and the rest of the staff makes you feel right at home. You have to come back!
- Pros: Convient to the airport and very quick service
Meat,2 fresh veggies(free refills),tea or coffee,bread(biscuits/corn muffins)dessert under $9

This resturant has been around since before the days of Eastern Airlines(at that time it was 24 hours a day, fresh veggies around the clock) at the Atlanta Airport, when Virginia Ave was the HUB of Atlanta's Nightlife. It has Been around so long because of the friendly fast service and the freshest veggies cooked from scratched daily. You can order from a daily menu of fresh veggies and meats, with free refills of the veggies(and not just the ones ordered first time around),2 with dessert(first come first serve on the dessert) or 3 without, tea or coffee and bread(also from scratch). The best fried(breaded pan fried) chicken breast in Atlanta, chopped pork is more like pork roast(tender). BBQ sauce comes in different taste and can be provided on the side(for those who like to add their own).I have tried(over the years), everything on and off their menu, without a bad sitting anytime, simply put: this place goes the extra mile to please its customers. Apple season is a great time for baked apples here(usually found on the veggie list),cored and baked in their skin.Fried green tomatoes.
I could go on and on, but real food and at a great price, none better in Atlanta. One problem is there is no free refills on the veggies on Sunday, but the portions are BIG anyway so no refill needed(but I'm a BIG eater, pig sometimes).
If you are going to pick up someone from the Airport, plan a few extra mintues and dine here while you wait for the delayed flight from Delta, you will be happy you did(of course you could get the passanger and both of you eat together).
- Pros: Best food in Atlanta
- Cons: No refills on veggies on Sunday
