Tasty pies come with a side of '70s nostalgia at the quintessential, spruced-up college town pizzeria..
In Short
With satellite locations in big-time university towns like Chapel Hill and Athens, this popular Atlanta chain knows what makes a college pizzeria. Newer strip mall locations aside, staple fixtures include good music, servers in Jane's Addiction T-shirts, psychedelic painted cinder blocks and bumper sticker-covered beer coolers. A product of the '70s, this reliable pizzeria prjects an unflappable Deadhead psychedelics-n'-health-food ethos. This amounts to lots of "shroom" references, "spring water dough" (enriched with vitamin E), plus tofu as a pizza topping and sprouts on all the hoagies. Pies are high quality and the crust--dense but crisp--is distinctive. Specialties, including the Gourmet White pie (sun-dried tomatoes, onions, feta and provolone cheeses) and the Mighty Meaty (hamburger, bacon, pepperoni, ham and sausage) are top-notch. Salads and sandwiches are college-food good, making a nice variation if you dine here often.
Average Pizza ~ Pricey. After my first takeout order from Mellow Mushroom I have to say I am dissapointed. The pizza was not bad, however I was shocked when I picked up my order. The website doesn't list the prices for the menu items, so I was excpecting a total around 20 bucks or so.Well ..... for a large pizza with 5 toppings, 2 bottles of soda & 3 small pretzels it cost me 35.00! Sorry guys, you can get a better pizza dinner at Johnny's for much less.
MELLOW MUSHROOM. The Mellow Mushroom off of Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody, is absolutely disgusting. They have dogs running in and out of the restraunt and behind the kitchen. Also, between closing time and 5 a.m. they hold poker turnaments where they play for large cash rewards, drink and serve alcohol until 5 a.m. and smoke illegal substances. This HAS TO COME TO AN END. They need a health inspection, and for the police to come in and resolve this issue a.s.a.p
Best Pizza Around and Excellent for Sport Nights!!!. This is by far the best pizza around. This joint has awesome pizza, amazing televisions and good service. The price is great and the atmoshpere is fun.
Great Product. I have owned 8 pizza restuarants from 1990 to 2000 and Mellow Mushrooms concept and product is one of the freshest in Atlanta. The crust is the key to their great pizza, but their salads and hoagies are very good as well. Also it looks like a fun place to work so possibly employee turnaround might be minimal. I would recommend Mellow highly.
Old reliable. I've never been to the LaVista location but I've been to many others and I've never had a bad experience. Service can be spotty but the pizza is awesome - 2nd only to Dagwood's in Norcross for me. And their esperanza salad dressing is to die for.
don't DO IT.
If you are from the south, a college kid, a yuppy or hippy, or one who likes fancy pizza's this is your place! If you want authentic Italian Pizza you will be dissapointed. Althought the variety is good the price will make you want head on over to CiCi's. Similar flavors at half the price. If you want true Italian Pizza....atlanta just doesn't have it! Go up North or head on over to South Italy for the real deal!

Good Pizza!. As far as Atlanta goes, Mellow Mushroom is at the top! By far the best crust is the city, which is the back bone of any good pizza! There sauce is good, and the toppings are of a higher standerd then any other chain restaurant...IMO
pizzalicious. Great pizza tomatoes and cheese in the right amount, also cooked the way we like it. always good always crowded.. the crust is crunchy and tasty
