Editorial Review for Dante's Down the Hatch – by Michael Longshore
The Scene
Follow this landmark's plank walkway into a richly detailed wharf scene centered on a full-scale cutaway of a sailing ship. Below it sits a 1906 Steinway grand piano. Lanterns glow along narrow passageways and crocodiles glide through a lurid pool. Distinguished Buckhead types soak up the atmosphere from the bar, while the international business crowd shout requests to the band.
The Food
It's easy to have misgivings about a menu that highlights strawberry daiquiris in souvenir glasses and fondue. However, classic cheese fondue--a popular starter--blends Gruyere and Emmenthaler cheeses with a jagged hint of kirsch. Served with hunks of sweet brown bread and cold, crisp apple slices, it's an instant crowd-pleaser. Centerpiece beef fondue offers a half-pound of rosy tenderloin, a small tray of yellow squash, button mushrooms and cherry tomatoes, and four dipping sauces. For dessert, try a slice of creamy New York-style cheesecake.

We went for Valentine's Day--which by far one of the worst nights to go out in Atlanta. However, we were seated promptly. I was surprised to know that we were greeted by Dante himself. I recommend the cozy cabin if you are on a romantic date. The waitstaff was very attentative to us. We had the Mandarin fondue platter and it was great. If you are looking for a nice restaurant to go for a date night this is it. Great conversation in a cozy setting and a bit of smooth jazz!!!!!
Pros: Not having to wait to be seated on a busy night.
Cons: We had to share our cabin with another couple.
