The Scene
Follow this landmark's plank walkway into a richly detailed wharf scene centered on a full-scale cutaway of a sailing ship. Below it sits a 1906 Steinway grand piano. Lanterns glow along narrow passageways and crocodiles glide through a lurid pool. Distinguished Buckhead types soak up the atmosphere from the bar, while the international business crowd shout requests to the band.
The Food
It's easy to have misgivings about a menu that highlights strawberry daiquiris in souvenir glasses and fondue. However, classic cheese fondue--a popular starter--blends Gruyere and Emmenthaler cheeses with a jagged hint of kirsch. Served with hunks of sweet brown bread and cold, crisp apple slices, it's an instant crowd-pleaser. Centerpiece beef fondue offers a half-pound of rosy tenderloin, a small tray of yellow squash, button mushrooms and cherry tomatoes, and four dipping sauces. For dessert, try a slice of creamy New York-style cheesecake.

I did not enjoy Dante's. My boyfriend and I went for dinner date night and got the sampler fondue with a cheese fondue appetizer. The cheese was mediocre, at best and the bread was stale. The fondue meat was unseasoned and tasted as though someone just thought to chop up some beef and throw it on a platter earlier that afternoon. I think the Melting Pt has much better meat and cheese fondue. There was a live jazz band, which was pretty cool. We sat at the bottom of the ship, close to the live band. Very nice atmosphere but small squished together tables. They have a special dessert fondue, but you have to preorder it. Why can't they just throw some melted chocolate and marshmallows/fruit on a plate for those who wanted a smaller chocolate dessert? It doesn't seem that hard to throw together an alternate option.

Dante's was very interesting...makes a great place for a first date as it will give plenty to talk about with its interesting decor and music. It's not the best place though for a dinner because the nature of fondue makes you wait before eating each bite. Great for drinks and dessert. But why can't you get their famous chocolate on the weekends??? That should be available on the weekend days! The night my friends and I went our server wasn't the greatest either. Kept forgetting drinks and didn't really seem to care about our experience. Quite frustrating especially when you're paying that much for fondue. Fun to experience once, but won't be returning.

We enjoy Dante's. The atmosphere is nice, the music is great. Definitely sit on the ship, it's worth it. The cheese fondue appetizer is very good. I can't believe people complain on here about the portion sizes --- I could not finish all of mine and my husband was full when he finished his and could not order dessert! The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. We were impressed with every aspect of our experience. It's not the Atlanta Grille at the Ritz-Carleton, but for the money it was a very unique experience.
