The Deal
Her incomparable good taste has made German designer Jil Sander a grande dame of fashion. With the design philosophy of "less and luxe," Sander avoids loud colors and elaborate prints, working from a primarily black, white and earth-tone palette. The Phipps boutique exemplifies this post-modern good taste with luxurious fabrics and updated classics. A committed tailor and student of textile engineering, Sander is a detail fanatic--coats that hang perfectly at the shoulder, jacket linings that prevent the loss of shape. She has even invented new fabric combinations like wool velvet and wool linen. Even the more basic pieces of the collection are at price points well above other designers.
