Editorial Review for The Tavern at Phipps – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
Cozy brick walls and dark-wood booths seem homely in Atlanta's ritziest mall, but the plastic-packing, dressed-up crowd puts things in perspective. Power lunchers, mall shoppers and those who wear Brooks Brothers suits dine in the restaurant. The real action, though, is at the bar, where veteran Buckhead players mingle during happy hour. Well-tanned stockbrokers talk about clients and golf; heads swivel to survey the scenery.
The Draw
The bartenders put on a show, and famous people surface when big events are in town. While you're waiting for heads to turn, you can't miss with the steak or the lightly charred barbecued chicken. And nothing tops the tavern chips: Slathered with salmon and lobster-cream sauce, chicken and peanut sauce, shrimp and black-bean puree or several other addictive combinations, they'll send your entree straight to the doggie bag.

This used to be "the place" to go after work. It WAS great to go with a huge group of people for marathon Happy Hours. What a shame! My friends and I won't be going at all anymore. I don't what management is thinking, but this place has turned into a cheesy Hootrz. The drinks and food are average at best now for the inflated cost. It used to be much better. The Tavern waitresses spend their time flirting and flipping their untied hair (yuck) instead of delivering the food and drinks on time. This establishment has successfully pushed away female patrons and has made this a purely male establishment for cheap kicks. If a guy is looking to meet women, he will need to go a few doors down where women will feel comfortable mingling and socializing in a respectable environment.
Pros: None left unfortunately
Cons: Slow service, average food, gone downhill, parking disaster

A dinner date brought me to the Tavern at Phipps 4 years ago and I have been a loyal customer every since. The amibiance is great, low lighting, band out side, etc.. You can actually carry on a private conversation while dining. The food is very delicious. I always order Fried Trout Ponchartrain Fried trout with lump crab meat and sliced almonds on top ) or the Gilled SIcilian Trout along with the Crawfish Garlic Mash potatoes that just simply melt in your mouth, and the Honey buttered Croissants will have you wanting not just one order as an appetizer but another order to go with your meal. The sevice is very good and the waiters/servers/hostesses/ are always very polite, friendly and helpful. You can come casual or professional as long as you have on a shirt with sleeves.
Pros: Excelent Food, Excellent Service, Ambience, parking, Good date restaurant
Cons: Because the restaurant is so great, it can be crowded at times resulting in a wait for a table
