Whenever I get comfort food I try and keep it simple and you can't go wrong with their fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese.
Go for the fried chicken, sweet tea and people watchin...forget the other reviews. Love this place for what it is, and not what it lacks.

The Colonnade has been slinging fried chicken & salmon cakes since 1927 & the "gays and grays love it. Don't skip the strawberry shortcake!
Great Southern Food With A Hoot!. I've been eating here for the past twenty-five years and love it. It's Southern Food like your mother never could cook, but your grandmother did. Starting with the wonderful homemade yeast rolls, lettuce wedge w/blue cheese dressing, and the fresh seafood platter. The vegetable sides are fresh and killer. For a great finish, try the coconut creame pie. And the best most diversified group of patrons in the city. Love the waitress, when she calls "hon". They don't make them like this anymore!
User review by cmeplay22. Food was great. I recommend any of the desserts!!!! They are fabulous. Expect wait times.
Old-school Midtown restaurant specializes in Southern food..
The Scene
Situated amid the strip joints and antique shops of funky Cheshire Bridge Road, this sprawling restaurant doesn't have a colonnade in sight, but it's an immensely popular Midtown destination. Inside are several large, sparsely decorated dining rooms and a smoky bar. Service, provided by a veteran staff, is efficient and friendly.
The Food
Halfway between a meat-and-three and a tea room, this throwback restaurant specializes in old-fashioned Southern food. A bread basket full of hot yeast rolls and corn muffins is a highlight, as are fresh vegetables and homey desserts. Fried chicken is especially good, as is the roasted pork loin with celery dressing and the chicken pot-pie. Shrimp cocktail (served with tear-inducing horseradish-laced cocktail sauce) and a retro iceberg wedge salad are worth ordering as well. Peppermint ice cream, a signature item, makes an excellent finish.
Old School Style. The formula at Colonnade is simple and it works. Good, unpretentious southern food, generous portions, reasonable prices, friendly and experienced service, and a great mix of patrons. This is not your trendy midtown or buckhead eatery, and it doesn't try to be. Colonnade is a always a good choice; its familiar and consistent. Snobby foodies may turn their nose up at this place; but they must be doing something right becasue the place is always packed.
Delightful. A group of friends and I ate at the restaurant for my birthday. It was our first time there and it was a great experience. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. We even got a visit from the head chef. The staff is very personable and the dining room and lounge are very condusive to conversation. My only complaint is that they are very crowded. I will definitely call ahead next time. Besides the long wait I would recommend The Colonnade to anyone.
Delicious. The food at the Colonnade is excellent, no doubt about it. The fried chicken is perfect, the pot roast is tender, the sides are just how they're supposed to be; this is all Southern cooking at its finest. The rolls to start off your meal are warm and fresh and the desserts are the best I've ever had. The Colonnade is worth trying--and you'll come back again, too!
mmmm good.
Favorite of the Gays and Grays... A great place to visit again and again. Check the daily specials for alternatives to the tried and true menu. Favorites include many delicious seafood items, a variety of Southern-style veggies and fresh salads, and generous cuts of prime rib.
Table service is usually excellent and many servers have worked there for years.
Plan on waiting for a table on many nights. A well-stocked bar compliments the comfort food... and makes the wait more tolerable.
Forty years!!!!!.
We have been eating at the Colonnade for more than forty years. The food has always been good and nothing much has changed over all this time.
If you want Southern meals like you wish you had at home, at reasonable prices, this is the place to go. Alcoholic beverages are also served and this is
a plus, as most "family type" restaurants are dry as
a bone.
Great value, entertaining. Consistent comfort food in an entertaining old southern environment. On the short list I continue to return to for value and quality of food.
Consistent!!!. I love the Colonnade. I am always pleased with their food and service. Yummy, fried chicken, potatoes, meatloaf, turkey and a full service bar!
