The Scene
Small and worn, but inevitably busy, this old-school diner is a Midtown morning destination. Likeably Deep South, the small dining room and counter are an early-morning salt lick for politicos, lawyers and local business folks. Outre decorator touches include lime-and-tangerine striping, a one-wall shrine to someone's daughter's horse phase and funny old signs.
The Food
No place for venti non-fat mocaccinos or tofu scrambles, Silver Skillet is the kind of throwback breakfast spot that features standards like country ham, biscuits and gravy, and at-your-elbow coffee service. It might not be the best breakfast in town, but what it lacks in flavor or finesse, the diner more than makes up for in atmosphere. Breakfast is served all day, and lunch continues the theme with pork chops, chicken fried steak and plenty of thoroughly cooked veggies.

Great Southern food - breakfast and brunch, in a great 50s style decor restaurant. Egg breakfasts, grits, red eye gravy, biscuits and signature pork chops! Its a really fun place to meet up - and its really close to everything - Georgia Tech, Atlantic Station, Midtown.. - so its really really popular!!

Being known as 'king of breakfast' among my friends, they expect me to point them in the right direction. Let me start by saying The Silver Skillet is ground zero! This has got to be the most real food I've had in some time. Nothing faddy, nothing put on--no salsa, bean sprouts or tofu here. This is where one goes to get back in touch with their inner self. The good old days when men were men and women were women--The food is outstanding, service fast and friendly and the 50s atmosphere is unique to this 50s diner. You couldn't reproduce this anywhere else than at The Silver Skillet. Yet again, I've found the perfect breakfast spot. Hail to the King!!

recently saw this place on my favorite tv show-"Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" on the food network--it showed off this place so much that I had to come see for myself. This is a one of kind find--a 50s diner that actually began in the 50s. Since 1956!! in Atlanta!! rare indeed in these days of chain restaurants. The owners were both working when I stopped in Saturday to a line out the door. This is a popular spot!! Now I can see why. The food is just like the show said--Fantastic--the service, atmosphere-just the best. I'm glad no one has made this a chain- it just wouldn't be the same. The owner, Teresa was ready with a smile and a Good Morning!! Not easy to find these days. I just can't say enough other than I WILL BE BACK!!!

If there's a long line, try the smaller dining room next to the main one. You don't get the same ambience, but you do get the same food.
