Editorial Review for Fox & Hounds – by Tina Sozen

The Scene
Located on the outskirts of Buckhead, Fox and Hounds draws crowds with its down-to-earth pub atmosphere. Spacious outdoor seating, with wooden tables and benches, becomes a home away from home in the warmer months. Inside is a cross between a classic English pub and a hunting lodge. Dim, smoky lighting, '70s-era carpeting, a jukebox and a fireplace surround an inviting bar complete with stuffed foxes and mounted deer heads for decoration. A modest-sized game room houses pool tables and darts.

The Draw
Comforting pub fare hits the spot. Order up pints of hearty ale, fish-and-chips, bangers and mash, and vinegar and salt chips. Fancier selections include a surprisingly tasty tuna nicoise, with fresh, tender slices of perfectly pink tuna. Whisky drinkers will be impressed by an exceptional scotch list. Beware: prices tend to be higher than the pub norm.

Why is this pub-chain struggling? It seems that Fado is strengthening their hold on the pub market and DLP have closed their Decatur, Midtown, and Westside locations. The interiors of the dlp stores are authentic. The prices are pretty high for a pub even in a major city. $6.00 for a pint of Stella? And the food isn't up to par , even for pub standards. You may as well bring in Shaun Doty to consult the menus. Oh, that's sooo last year. Why not counsel with R. Blais? He may pair your horrible Belgian bottled beers with his froie gras milkshake. Sounds like a winner! In the mean-time; I'm hanging in Buckhead( remember E. Paces Ferry , boys?) and paying that ridiculous door fee to get into Fado. Also, Churchill's seem to know what they're doing. We all go to CCC, but how long are you going to play this charade?

Pros: When open...the happy hour regulars(the 40's and a 30 or two) are great conversationalists

Cons: Prices. Cigarrette machine always broken.

I really believe that management is writing the good reviews for this place, as they ARE the only ones delusional enough to believe the garbage that "atlchick" is writing. Bud Light is not the king of beers??? It is in fact the BEST SELLING BEER IN AMERICA EVERY YEAR since 2001. Youre right, why would i be crazy enough to expect a "bar" to have the most popular bottled beer in America? I guess that is ludicrous. I could drink it on draft but I know for a fact that those draft lines are so old and dirty that they shoot leaves and other debris out, as I was once served a beer with some sort of trash in it once, back when I used to frequent this place when it used to be a legitimate establishment with legitimate staff. They know how to pour a stiff drink too, incredible. When that is a major selling point, you know the place must be lacking. I would hope that they do considering how overpriced their liquor is, as well as the beer. $6 beers are standard in BUCKHEAD, HIGHLANDS, AND MIDTOWN, not off the beaten path on collier road. Also, I frequent Churchill's, a real English pub in a prime location, often and it is actually CHEAPER to drink there than at the Fox and Hounds. Couple that with them having bartenders that actually know what they are doing and how to hold a bottle and pour shots or beers or anything, and an atmosphere that is filled with ATTRACTIVE women and a good vibe, why would anyone ever choose this overpriced, drab, depressing, joke of a substitute? Also, nice article in Friday's AJC about the 2 million in back taxes and debt to creditors that the clowns of owners owe the state. Not only are these guys monetarily bankrupt, they are morally bankrupt as well apparently, letting their pubs shut down wholly unconcerned with their employees. Great guys to support....please. My advice is to find somewhere else, Fox is a JOKE.

Pros: none

Cons: ownership, management, staff, prices, beer selection, atmosphere
