This artful complex infuses Auburn Avenue with creative spirit. – Overview
Atlanta's Historic District Development Corporation established this contemporary arts-based development to ignite the revival of the Martin Luther King Historic District. Once the Southeastern Cotton Warehouse, the property, dating from 1904, now holds residential lofts, galleries and shops. Local architects designed the funky but functional site with an inviting stretch of covered courtyard at the entrance and a central outdoor pavilion that's perfect for concerts and special events. Just west of the Inman Park neighborhood, Studioplex sits at the edge of Auburn Avenue in the old Fourth Ward.
While galleries and shops in the complex have yet to be fully discovered, each summer, the National Black Arts Festival brings at least a month of non-stop activity to the site. Headquartered at Studioplex, the NBAF presents art shows, theatre, music, literary events, dance, film and comedy in venues across the city to celebrate African American and African culture and art.
