Why is this place still open? Filthy (not funky - Dirty!), overpriced, sauce is like Heinz meets Liquid Smoke. Save your big bbq $$$s and go straight to Fox Bros or get some sho' nuff bbq cheap on Sylvan Rd. at D&D BBQ
good bbq.
if you want to eat cheap, stick w/ the pulled pork, ribs are pricey but very good...
you want to get the hot sauce, and then add some texas pete on it...
they seem a bit short staffed sometimes
$43 for two people????. Over the weekend I took a friend there for the first time. The ribs were OK, but for ribs with sides and two beers...$43????? Yikes - I won't be going back!
saw a huge rodent. i went there with some friends to see if Daddy D'z was better than Fatt Matts. I ordered the smoke turkey with potato wedges and macaroni and cheese. our food arrived and as we took our first bites we saw a HUGE R A T run inside the restaurant. the r a t knew where it was going so it was obviously used to going in and out of the place. that pretty much spoiled my appetite. and i'll be sticking with fatt matts from now on.
Food is bad. The food is the worst bbq I tasted in along time. The place is a shack ! If you like alot of bbq sauce this is not the place, & by the way, the sauce is bland. The food was lukewarm, and the corn bread was tasteless. I was very dissapointed with this place, especally with the reviews. They did not have any beef ribs for people who do not eat pork . I will not go back nor recommend this place.
Good food, building needs work.
I decided to give Daddy D'z a shot for a late lunch today. I hadn't eaten since the night prior, and it was about 4pm, so I was relatively hungry.
I ordered a half slab of ribs, with two sides (mac and cheese as well as corn), and a chopped pork sandwich. The chopped pork sandwich was good, and if you like Georgia-style BBQ, you'll like the sauce as well. I got the hot varient, but they also offered a mild. The sandwich wasn't terrific due to the bun, it was just a generic run of the mill cold bun.
The ribs were delicious, although I did have two that were tough (seemed like they'd been smoking a bit too long.) I'm not much on Georgia-style sauces, but if you are - I'm sure you'll love them. They were tolerable to me, and that's better than 95% of the other sauces I've had around here. :)
All in all, I rate it fairly middle of the road - not due to my personal differences in terms of BBQ styles, but because of the averageness of the food. I'd actually prefer to rate it between average and recommended. If they pick a different kind of bun for the chopped pork sandwich, I'd really like that. That said, I'll give it a recommended rating due to the friendliness of the staff, which pushed it over average.
Oh yes, and the sides. The mac and cheese was excellent, had a bit of kick, I was VERY impressed with this. Corn was nothing to write home about, seemed like the kind you get out of a can.
Last minor complaint. I love the old-style "shack" feel of the place, and the smells, but it really could do with some maintenance. The windows are opaque from grime/crud, the front door feels like it was going to fall off, and some of the chairs had padding ripped off. Things like this need to be improved, as it gives the impression of an unclean place.
I wanted to love this place. The wings are great..
Love the uniqueness of this place. The windows need washing. I had a pork sandwich which arrived on a cold bun with a large plop of BBQ sauce on it. I had cake for dessert and it was dry and old.
My husband says the wings he had ranked above most others. They had a smokey taste he liked. We will go back for the wings.
NOt REAL BBQ. Daddy D'z is a great looking place. It's divey and smells like a good BBQ place, but it is all just sweet and not really smokey at all. I have only been there a couple of times, so maybe I am not right, maybe they were just havin a couple of bad days, but it doesn't taste like the delicous BBQ I grew up with here in the south.
Best BBQ.
I lived in Atlanta in 2005 and once I discovered DD's, it would be fair to say that I took up a residency there before I left. If you can get over the less than attractive exterior, then you are in for a treat with this decidedly unpretentious BBQ shack.
The staff were always friendly and the fact that they often sold out of their fare tells you enough. Any friends that visited me were promptly taken to DD's and no complaints received. I myself will be back in Atlanta in mid-April 07 for a few days.. a visit or two to DD's is guaranteed. Feast well my chums.
Great Chicago Que & Blues!. Forget about Fat M....or whatever, this place has it going on. Off Memorial Dr., near Grant Park, don't let the location scare you away. Small, funky, yes funky, fun, great blues, and some of the best Chicago style BBQ in the ATL. Ribs, are terrific, get the sauce on the side. Try the "que-wraps", bits of pork, wrapped in biscuit dough and deep fried. The sides are always perfect, and the cornbread, Oh Man! This place is low-down, funky and real.
