Contemporary gallery gives an edge to Atlanta's midtown arts center.. The Gallery At the heart of the Atlanta College of Art, this space intends to stimulate. The gallery explores current cultural issues and ideas through annual student and faculty exhibitions, along with thematic group and solo shows. Historically, the venue has been socially conscious, but since 2000, the gallery has become more playful. Video, digital and traditional media have taken viewers for a ride on the back of an alligator, invited them inside a virtual earthquake and suggested new meaning for coloring books and comics.
The Setting Italian architect Renzo Piano has redesigned the campus that the college gallery shares with the High Museum of Art, the Alliance Theatre and the Atlanta Symphony. In a move to create a synergetic urban village, the school's dormitory and sculpture studio will be the first sites transformed. The dramatic shift in surroundings is sure to energize this already dynamic space.
