Editorial Review for Stillwater Yoga Studio – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Tucked away on the second level of the Midtown Promenade, the certified Iyengar yoga center offers 30 classes a week, from beginner to advanced levels. The studio's white walls, hardwood floors and high ceilings provide a welcoming space. Director Kathleen Pringle studies regularly with B.K.S. Iyengar in India.

I have been practicing yoga for the past 10 years (3 + times a week) in San Francisco. On a recent trip to Atlanta I dropped in on two classes at Stillwater Yoga Studio. Unfortunately I found two instructors at Stillwater hostile towards modifications. They made negative examples out of students and didn’t show the “correct” posture as example. They both prefer giving verbal orders rather than demonstrating correct posture. I was told on more than one occasion that I wasn’t doing the “classical” pose. It was inferred that non-classical was a bad. Over the years I have had an opportunity to practice with many excellent and highly regarded instructors. My experience with the instructors at Stillwater was disappointing. I always look forward to an opportunity to practice while traveling. Hopefully other studios in Atlanta have more to offer.

I tried the Saturday morning vigorous class taught by Steve and needless to say, I will never return there. I have taken yoga over the past four years and wanted a challenge. This class just moves really fast so you can't even really get into the pose properly. Steve is the worst yoga teacher I've had. He's very pompous and even made fun of my friend who came to visit me from Acworth. He acted like she was from the boondock and whatever yoga she was doing, it wasn't good enough by his standard. The funny thing is, he can't even do some of the poses he calls out!!!! He's really good at calling the poses by it's proper name not the English version which didn't impress me. He has no personality for a yoga instructor. What ever classes he teaches, run the opposite direction!!!
Pros: nothing
Cons: paying for a worthless class, parking, bad instructor
