An Awesome Experience in Mexican Food. Our hostess seeing I was in a wheelchair seated our party of 5 to a table that was more then adequate and out of the way of traffic. The friendliness of the serving staff made us feel like we were their best customers. I needed assistance in finding items that were not over spiced and our server spent time describing dishes that I would be able to tolerate without causing me discomfort due to my tracheotomy. The appetizers (which were many) were delicious. Our entrees came out sizzling hot and oh so yummy. This was just a visit for me to Atlanta but I intend to return more often and will certainly make Uncle Julios one of my first stops.
Great food. Great location.
The food here is some of the best mexican food I've ever eaten. They have really awesome cheese enchiladas.
I asked for a mango mojito, but they don't have it. However, Javier the bartender hooked up a nice version using peach schnapps. That drink is tight.
The patio is really awesome on a nice night. It sits right on the road so if you don't like the sound of traffic then you might not like this location. I rather enjoy the view of all the traffic and passers by.
I highly recommend trying this place. I have been there twice and will return again.
Uncle Julio's "Fine" Mexican Food is just that... Fine. Unfortunately, I wish I had more positive things to say about Uncle Julio's than negatives. Personally, I enjoy a mexican restaurant that doesn't shout neon orange and green colors in your face to advertise it is a mexican restaurant like Uncle Julio's does. I usually enjoy the suttle, authentic, non-tourist mexican finds in the city. This place is located on Peachtree St. near Collier Rd. and you cannot miss it. Uncle Julio's is probably the brightest restaurant on the block. I went for lunch and was positively greeted by everyone including the bartender from behind the bar. This was very refreshing and welcoming. We were seated at a table that was wobbly, and instead of having to deal with the table moving during lunch, our waitress Carol reseated us without us having to complain or stuff napkins underneath one of the legs to even the table. Carol was amazing. She provided incredible service and attendance to our needs. I never had my drink glass or chip basket empty. This is definitely the positive of Uncle Julio's. Their service is astounding with even the manager walking around refilling glasses. I ordered the cheese dip since I personally consider myself to be a cheese dip connesuir. I usually order the white cheese dip as my meal with a couple tortillas for dipping. When the cheese dip came my first thought was thank God I only ordered the cup and not the bowl! The cheese dip (pictured above) looked like velveeta and rotel cheese dip, but tasted worse. It was way to heavy to dip a chip into, let alone a tortilla. I couldn't eat much of it without feeling sick. I ordered the chicken quesadillas lunch special (pictured above). It included fruit on the side as well. The chicken was very well flavored, but still was not the best authentic mexican I have ever had. Seemed like the dishes did just enough to "get by" without providing any special flavors or additions to the dish. The food did not nearly match the incredible service, so I would not recommend this place for Mexican food to anyone visiting Midtown. Uncle Julio's is definitely a "tourist" spot for those who don't know all that Midtown has to offer. Uncle Julio's Fine Mexican Food is just what the name says it is: just Fine.
Worst Service. I am so appalled at the service I received at this restaurant it would take too to give all the details. So I will suffice it to say our server had no interest in serving our table and made that clear by making herself unavailable during our visit, any request we had were passed through another server, including paying our check! When the service was brought to the attention of management we were told that they can’t make a server wait on us … What! The last time I checked Restaurants were in the service industry making money by serving patrons. To make matters worse I sent a certified letter to the general manger and to date have never received a response (more than 3 months ago)! If management doesn’t care about the service in their restaurant it is hard to assume they care about other important matter such as food quality which is mediocre at best.
best mexican ever!!. The food is fabulous!! they make the tortillas and chips fresh were you can see them! The fajitas are GREAT!! The atmosphere is fun and exciting!! I go here every time I am in Atlanta! The valet parking is also a plus!
Blah food. The restaurant is very crowded and the food is extremely blah. I would not go back her again. The salsa was so spicy I couldn't eat it, and the food was like slop on a plate
Don't waste your money. What a terrible experience. Don't plan on conversing with anyone it is so load in there. Our waitress was sexist and would only talk to my boyfriend. My margarita came and it was filled with ice, there was maybe 3 oz of liquid in there and it wasn't good. The food is expensive and nothing to write home about. I was charged .65 cents for something I don't even know and $ 1.75 for sour cream that was supposed to come with the dinner. We just wanted to get out of there. There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in Atlanta, do not go to this one. Also, My stomach still hurts from dinner !!!!
Truly best mexican!. Let me start off by saying that I love this place. I've been coming for years and although the staff has changed a little bit, as any other restaurant overtime, I still feel at home. Whenever a manager, host, or bartender recognizes me they ask how things are going and remind me of our previous conversation. As for the food, I always try the specials. It allows me to try mexican food in ways I would never think of. I just had Salmon in a tequila cream sauce. It was nothing short of AMAZING! Oh, and I can't forget about going to the bar for a drink. The bartenders at Casa Grande are quite the studs and are always up for a little sports talk while watching the game on their HD tv. They seem to be quite the lady charmers as well! For a great all-around experience at lunch, dinner, or even take-out think Uncle Julio's Casa Grande!
Deeply disappointing.
A friend and I chose Uncle Julio's for dinner after seeing it in the Best of Citysearch for Mexican. Man, were we fooled. Our experience was anything BUT "Best of." From start to finish, it was a lackluster meal.
The chips and salsa arrived immediately. Unfortunately, the salsa was awful. It had no flavor, and it was easily the worst "salsa" I had ever tasted. I asked both our server and the manager about it. The manager explained that they had to make a new batch part way through the evening. If I were the manager, I would have been embarrassed to serve it to customers.
Next, our entrees arrived within a reasonable amount of time, but my enchiladas were slightly warm at best. I should have known better when the plate reached the table, and I noticed the cheese atop the enchiladas was only half-melted. When I took my first bite, I encountered red sauce that was room temperature and chicken that was not hot at all. Fortunately, our server obliged me and had the enchiladas remade for me. About 15 minutes later, the manager brought out a new plate for me. This time they were hotter, but too bad my friend had already finished his meal.
I finished my enchiladas, and we asked for our check right away. By that time, we just wanted to put the experience behind us. Needless to say, we have no intention of returning to Uncle Julio's Casa Grande. There are way too many great Mexican restaurants in our city to waste time with mediocre ones.
One of the Best in Atlanta. This restaurant is a great place to go for a night out with your friends. The drinks, the food, the atmosphere, and the servers are wonderful. I would highly recommend the tamales as an appetizer and a "swirl" to drink. Be careful - the "swirl" is a toxic combination of a frozen margarita and homemade sangria - but it is to die for! For your meal, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I have ordered almost everything at some point or another, and I have NEVER been disappointed. If the weather permits, enjoy your meal outside on the patio. Pricing is reasonable. If you're planning on going on a Friday or Saturday night, you may want to call and make reservations. This place gets very busy on the weekends.
