Aged wood and hand craftsmanship lend the new pieces from this furniture warehouse character beyond their years..
Nottingham's sign rests on a pine armoire "sprouting" from a flower bed, hinting at the furniture maker's serious but lighthearted style. Inside, the showroom is packed floor to ceiling with wooden tables, chairs, hutches, chests and desks. Relatively inexpensive, handcrafted reproductions make the shop a staple for young homeowners buying their first "real" furniture and Buckhead matrons furnishing their lake houses.
Designs are mostly traditional country, dressed up with architectural details like crown molding and fluted pilasters. To the untrained eye, it's hard to tell new pieces made of aged pine from true antiques. Nottingham also uses stripped pine, cherry, oak, walnut, even mahogany. The store has also added a rather incongruous selection of accessories, which includes bamboo chimes, fossils and folk art animals.
