Editorial Review for Veni Vidi Vici – by Philip Malkus
The Scene
The spacious, cream-colored main room of this Italian veteran of the Midtown dining scene is anchored by an open kitchen, where a suckling pig usually spins on the rotisserie. Though the restaurant is popular with power-lunchers, crowds are thin many nights of the week. Arrive early for your reservation and sip a glass of champagne at the understated bar. Servers are sweet, if in need of a little polish.
The Food
Antipasta and salads are a hit-and-miss affair. Arugula salad and artichokes with mint pesto are wise choices. Save most of your appetite for the outstanding pastas, including velvety gnocchi in Gorgonzola cream sauce, fat pansotti stuffed with smooth butternut squash puree and a misshapen lasagne layered with a soulful Bolognese sauce. The kitchen uses a respectfully light hand with fish dishes. Tried and true tiramisu is a fitting choice for the finale.

My girlfriend and I had made a reservation for Veni Vidi Vici for a Friday evening. We were seatied on time, and the appetizer we ordered was excellent. While she not a big fan of Italian and is a bit of a picky eater, we both found several things on the menu that we thought we'd like. After ordering and trying each other's choices, we both agreed the food was better than we anticipated. The atmosphere was a bit noisy that evening. The service was about what we would expect for this type of restaurant. It wasn't spectacular, but the server was attentive and fairly knowledgeable. The wine selection was decent. Overall it was worth the price and is a place we will definitely consider again.

This was by far one of our best dining experiences in Atlanta. My wife and I had a reservation for 9:00 PM and arrived a bit early so we decided to have drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. Our bartender Matthew was very hospitable, knowledgeable and made a perfect wine recommendation. The hostess promptly seated us at 9:00 PM and although our server Steven was busy at the time, he quickly acknowledged our presence, returned shortly thereafter and provided impeccable and enjoyable service throughout the evening. The food is exquisite and simply delicious; and the Ossobucco with the saffron risotto and gremolata was simply out of this world. Scott (Manager) was also very hospitable and helped to make our visit a remarkable one.
Pros: Ambiance, Service
Cons: None
