great musicand great food

A big bunch of BS!

DON'T BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME OF MONEY ON THIS HOLE IN THE WALL!! Barleys adds 15% gratuity to EVERYTHING in the building. This was what the Manager told me when I questioned the gratuity on my tab for use of the pool table. If you're in a large group that is to be expected, but if an individual goes to the bar to order a drink or 2 people rent a pool table they still charge you gratuity. You end up paying an additional 15% for a guy to hand you a drink or a woman to take your ID and put it in a box and hand you pool que. The reciept tells you to see a manager if you disagree with the gratuity. Well I did and she was nothing short of a b!t@h! She told me the amount was only $XXXX and it was more trouble than it was worth to pay the transaction fee. Eventually she refunded the gratuity in cash which was just fine with me. It is obvious they are use to a particular clientele and are trying to squeeze every dime out of patrons to make up for either lost business or lack of adequate tips from the clientele they attract. Maybe if the food was better and the staff was worth it, people would gladly tip.

In addition, no one in the group, self include, was thrilled with the food. It was edible, thats all. It wasn't raw, bleeding, or still frozen. Thats the best I can say about it. The drinks tasted like juice and syrup, no alchohol.

The only positive things I can say is the music was great! The DJ upstairs played great old school music and the band downstairs sounded great as well.

• Cons: 15% gratuity to everything, HORRIBLE manager, cramped tables

Big Fun! Great Service!

In preparing for my 40th birthday celebration on June 13th, 2009, I struggled to find the right venue at which to host my friends. I considered many nightclubs, private dining rooms and rooftops, as Atlanta is never short on entertainment options. I knew I had the right formula when I made the decision to invite friends to Barley’s.

Tiana, one of the managers, was wonderful. She swiftly handled the request for reserved seating and the purchase of the seating vouchers. It was a transaction that concerned me as my guests would arrive at various times, however Tiana appeared to be detail-oriented. She gracefully expedited the details essential to a smooth entrance for my guests. It is evident that Tiana takes great pride in what she does, and fosters a work ethic that should be commended.

I thank Julia, obviously one of the top-notch servers, for setting up my balloons and tablecloths. I ran late for the start of the party. When I arrived my section was perfectly pink to match my party’s theme. Julia greeted each and every guest as if she was welcoming them into her home. She spent the rest of the evening making certain everyone was happy. I truly appreciate her attentiveness.

Craig, another manager, elaborated on Tiana’s and Julia’s efforts by acquainting my guests with the menu, and additional staff. The three of them worked very well together. Craig took extra steps to ensure we were comfortable throughout the evening. Although he had many other responsibilities to tend to, he made us feel as if we were the only patrons in the building. Everyone in my party was impressed with his warmth and thoughtfulness. His level of customer care is one of which is seldom experienced in present times. Craig appears to be a genuine person with good character even beyond his title as manager. The owners of Barley's should be proud to have him lead their team.

Finally, I must compliment their choice for a house band on Saturday nights. Quinn and his band members gave an amazing performance. We thoroughly enjoyed both sets. I spent eighteen years in the entertainment industry, and this is the first band I’ve encountered to be as incredibly talented and grounded in their audience’s expectations. I can’t imagine what Barley’s would be without them.
