What People Are Saying About Eats

The Scene – This bare-bones, cafeteria-style restaurant draws a crowd of diverse in-towners with its economy dining. Counter service is fast and furious; dishes are prepared while you wait and handed over on plastic trays. Despite this joint's popularity, tables aren't hard to come by in the large space. Ambience is low-key and the furniture smacks of a college dorm. – – The Food – The food is as straightforward as its delivery. Counter one offers fresh, semi-made-to-order pasta, including spinach tortellini and a bold-flavored pesto, served with vegetables and meats…

ambiance

  1. It is NOT romantic, leave your snooty attitude at home, but the staff is generally pleasant and helpful.
  2. The food is pretty good, the ambiance is so-so, the parking sucks, but for $5-$6 and change, it's a marvel.
  3. we happen to live in new york city, among any number of cliche 'romantic hot spots', but none would be as meaningful nor as close to home as the far off Eats.
  4. The atmosphere is great as well.
  5. Also the amount of parking available for this restaurant is very limited as well as being tough to get into and out of (bad traffic location on Ponce and lot is narrow so it is tough to turn around in the lot before heading back out into traffic on Ponce)
  6. Eats is not a romantic place to take a date, but if you're on a tight budget and want a large helping of yummy, fresh food, it's awesome.
  7. Eats has great food and a great atmosphere that everyone will love.
  8. Hole-In-The-Wall atmosphere, with the best diversified diners in the city, who know a good value.

A must-do experience

by eflambord

Eats is becoming somewhat of a legend.

Excellent food; low prices; kitschy atmosphere. What more can you ask for?

What I don't get is how they can make super-simple things like a sweet potato so darn good. I mean just a plain baked sweet potato, but it's somehow just excellent. Maybe their secret is that they don't mess it up with fancy gunk or cheap ingredients, but just deliver real, wholesome food.

Ok food, might try again

by 2truefoodie

The BBQ chicken was tender and flavorful but the macaroni-n-cheese was a little bland. The cornbread and collards were ok. I brought the turkey lasagna home to my son and he loved it, I wished I had a taste but he ate every morsel. It smelled delicious. The staff is not rude, but I would not call them friendly either. I might go again to try other dishes but I live in Alpharetta, so it is not worth a special trip.

I've loved eats since the day they opened it

by nomadness

Every time I come back to Virginia Highlands I always go to eats three or fout times a week for lunch, BEFORE or AFTER the crowds set in. The crew is always happy and always grill my garlic bread the way I want it. I go for the green pasta with turkey sauce and a side of pesto, or the jerk chicken with greens and beans. Bob the owner is always on the floor bussing tables and there is a great mix of suits, blue collar, and students. I get a kick from the black chicks dressed to the nines. So it's not fancy, but always clean. If you have a hard time getting on to Ponce take a left out of the parking lot and go through the neighborhood to Monroe and go left to head to Boulevard and downtown. Turn left on Ponce from Monroe to head east toward Decatur. They do take plastic, contrary to other reviews and if you need some resturant to make you feel important or to kiss your a*s please go somewhere else away from the neighborhood because we don't want you here. I'd like a place like this in my new town.

  • Pros: Lots of good simple food, not pretentious
  • Cons: I'd only wish they would add the old Tortilla's menu

one of my most enjoyable dining experiences

by johncampbell021

My friend dragged me to this place last week and I had one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in my life. Their food selection was really enticing and I had a very hard time choosing which entrée to order. Their friendly wait staff recommended their best-sellers, which was very awesome. It was so flavorful. I really liked it a lot. I was definitely pleased with both the food and the service.
