Flying Biscuit

The original location of The Flying Biscuit on McLendon Avenue is nestled among funky Craftsman bungalows in the heart of Historic Candler Park, and has remained one of Atlanta's favorite spots for brunch since it opened in 1993. The Flying Biscuit Café recipes have endured since we opened our doors thanks to the diligence of our employees and the returns of our customers. Try one of our "favorites," like the Turkey Meatloaf & Pudge or the Vegan Burrito. And, of course, there is our famous breakfast, with dishes like Orange Flavored French Toast and omelets named after local streets, and most importantly, our mouth watering biscuits. Be sure to visit the bakery right next door, so you can pick up biscuits for the road.

Editorial Review for Flying Biscuit – by Michael Longshore

The Scene
A sunflower mural, funky hand-painted crockery and mismatched vinyl tablecloths set the tone in this cheerful New-Age cafe. Large plate-glass windows flood the restaurant with sunlight. Unfinished floor planks creak as friendly, low-key servers thread their way through the crowded, small rooms.

The Food
All-day breakfasts and weekend brunches are the star attractions at this extremely popular Candler Park cafe. The Flying biscuit breakfast--two eggs, turkey sausage, grits or potatoes, and an enormous, pillowy biscuit--is a tasty standard. More inventive is the Meggxican wrap: scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and Serrano peppers folded into a flour tortilla and topped with salsa and sour cream. Excellent orange-scented French toast, served with raspberry compote and creme anglaise, is also fortunately available in half orders. A tasty slab of turkey meat loaf served with "pudge"--smashed potatoes with sun-dried tomatoes and olive oil--makes for a solid lunch or dinner entree.

lets start with the delicous grits! smooth and flavorful with just the right seasoning. I lovegrits that are not grainy in texture and these just melt in your mouth. absolutely everything is an eclectic spin off of basic southern breakfast fair yet the subtle twists make you feel that you are eating healthy while over endulging in gloriously rich sumptous food.

Pros: southern style breakfast food with healthy substitues

Cons: service can be slow especially on weekend

I love the food here. The biscuits are tremendous, as are the sandwiches. I usually get the 3B chicken sandwich, and it's what I recommend to everyone else. It's a good thing I don't live very close, or I'd be fat off of these biscuits and sandwiches. I have tried some of the casseroles and was less impressed, and some things I just didn't like at all. They have some good choices on the menu, but just be aware that not everything is as good as the best items on the menu. We regularly get the fried green tomatoes appetizer as well, and it's a good start to the meal. The only drawback at this location is the lackluster service. It can take a while to get your order taken. We've had two negative dining experiences there at the hands of a waitress named Olive. The first time she delivered our food to the wrong table, who ate it (and made us wait another 30 minutes for food without explanation). The second time, it just took forever to get our order, food, and check. I know that Flying Biscuit was bought out by Raving brands, but at locations like this they really need to focus on friendly and attentive service. Frankly I will continue to get takeout here but will probably avoid dining in. Nothing ruins my appetite like poor service.

Pros: great food, mostly

Cons: lazy service
