Go see Skip!!!!. Okay....i LOVE this salon!!! Cortex is sooo laid back & all of the staff is super helpful. I get cut & color at a great price with Skip. She takes her time & really does an amazing job! Over the past 3 years we've done it all - short, long, blonde, dark, bangs, etc! She is so sweet & always fun to talk to. I've sent loads of coworkers & girlfriends to her...everyone is a fan!!

Rachel is awesome!!!!. I recently decided that I needed a change in my hairstyle. My current stylist had me stuck in the same style for years and after recently having my first child I thought I needed a style that didn't make me feel like I had "mom hair". Based on a friends recommendation, I went to cortex to see Rachel. I was told that she had also just had a child and may be able to relate to my current situation and feelings about my boring hair. I really don't have enough good things to say about the experience or the haircut. After a great consultation, that didn't feel rushed, I felt that Rachel truly understood what I was after and I completely trusted that she would be able to deliver! Not only did I leave with a cut that looked fresh and stylish but she took into consideration that I don't have a lot of time and it is incredibly easy to style as well!

Cool Salon - Skip Rocks!. Rest assured, the reviews about the unpretentious nature of this salon are true... This salon is entirely laid back and friendly. I formerly had my hair done at Vis a Vis, loved the results but ceased going due to the staggering snootiness of the staff... and clients for that matter.



Cortex is far superior. I highly recommend Skip as she is very adept, easy to talk to (no awkward hairstyling silence) and fun. As for the hair, I briefly articulated my desired hair stlye / color and she completely exceeded my expectations!



For those of you with thick, straight hair who want layers that fall naturally, Skip will not disappoint.

Nestled twenty years deep into the Virginia Highland neighborhood, Cortex salon sits within a micro strip of stores that blend into the hip-inhabiting and foliage-friendly backstreets. Retro chic leather strapped barber chairs and sole-weathered wooden floors adorn the breathy sunlight intoxicated space, while the eight resident stylists chop and color away. Prices vary between the funky-yet-accessible stylists that specialize in up-dos, smoothing treatments, color, and cuts. The attitude in the salon seems to echo the relaxed vibe of the neighborhood: trendy without being too pretentious. If you like the product they use to make your mop dazzle, they have copious amounts of Bumble and Bumble products to cop on your way out.

Love Cortex. Corey is the best!. This place is awesome and I think Corey is fantastic. I have naturally curly hair and have always loved the cut and color he does with my hair. I sent my straight-haired friend to him as well and she loved him too. He has never once made me feel rushed (which is rare for a salon) and the one time I wasn't 100% pleased, he made me a new appointment immediately and fixed the problem perfectly. Talk about phenomenal customer service. I can not speak enough for his talent, customer service skills and general pleasantness.

Everybody at Cortex is so friendly and talented. I constantly look around and see other stylists working wonders as well. This salon is very welcoming and not pretentious at all. Highly recommended.

Skip Boman. I've been searching for a stylist for a while now. I finally had my hair cut into an adorable bob and highlighted by Skip. I could not be happier with the results! Skip is a great listener, she understood exactly what I wanted in my cut and color. She then took her time and FINALLY, after a year of so-so hair, I have EXACTLY what I want. Not only did she do an amazing job of making the vision in my head a reality, she is a total sweetheart and enjoyable to talk to.

the best salon in atlanta!. i love this salon!!! it is so relaxing! everyone there is extremely nice and helpful too! its a lovely space and i believe the salon has been there for about 20 years. ive recently started seeing skip. she did an amazing job on my cut and color. i have long hair in a layered cut and get blonde highlights...she took care of me and really listened to what i wanted and what i didnt want. i left the salon looking great and feeling perfectly satisfied! id definitely recommend skip to anyone...her prices are great & she knows how to listen to her clients as well. i've sent a few friends there & they all agreed - this is the salon to go to in the highlands!

Cortex is BY FAR The BEST Salon in Atlanta!. Marion is a GREAT hair stylist. She has incredible Skill and quite a LOT of patience to work on something until it is CORRECT! I LOVE this Salon!

A long time customer NO MORE. I have to say that I had the WORSTexperience at Cortex. First off, I was a loyal customer of 12 yrs-so I would expect more out of this place. But after my hairdresser (who I LOVED) left, they transferred my appointment to a new stylist who was maybe a year out of beauty school and charged me the same price as my seasoned stylist Josh. For over 200, I had my hair ruined. The highlights were in random places all over my head and they all seemed to be in one section. My cut was cute, but that was the only plus. I called and came in for my hair to be fixed and after another failed attempt, I frantically called around looking for my beloved hairdresser.

When I entered the 2nd salon to have my hair FIXED-I could hear the stylists trying to determine who was responsible for doing that to my hair as I sat waiting for my appointment.) The owner of that salon even came out to talk with me to make sure that the bad color/ highlight job did not come from their salon! After spending 200+ at Cortex and 200 at the second place, I was very upset (but after having my highlights done for the 3rd time in one week, it finally looked presentable....until I got it fixed I had random strips of crayola red and dark brown and white in my hair.....not something I would expect from a pricey salon)

Luckily I found Josh at Urban Body after calling around and asking salons in the area if a Josh recently starting working there. The front desk at Cortex would not tell me where Josh now worked after I explained what an awful experience that I had and that I would not be back. I didn't get a call from the owner or anything. I guess being a customer of 12 yrs doesn't mean much there. And I will say that it seems that something is going on behind the scenes there b/c I recognized 2 stylists the last time that I went, and like I said, I had been going to Cortex for years and had always seen the same people.

Don't go there. Unless you like to waste money and time. Go to Urban Body.

Tracie is my recommendation. I had to tell everyone that I drove three hours from Union, SC to have my hair colored by Tracie Morrison at Cortex Salon. I had a great time and my hair has never looked so good. I will not let anyone touch my hair but her. She's a great stylist. If you feel that no one can do your hair right, I recommend that you visit Cortex Salon and ask for Tracie.
