Joining its three around-town brethren, Va-Hi coif-spot Helmet not only offers the shaggy-headed, roots-showing crowd a place to get their hair did – they also use this location as their laboratory to come up with new styles, grow new stylists, and serve as a member of the Aveda network. With warm lighting, red and cream walls and wooden floors, this loft version of the salon is tucked into the brick-walled shopping center that also hosts El Taco and D.B.A. barbecue on the north end of Highland Avenue. For the adventurous, or those watching their wallet, try out one of Helmet’s up-and-coming stylists at major discounts and walk out with a new ‘do and a great deal.
