Editorial Review for 20th Century Antiques – by Cathy Byrd
The Scene
The two adjoining rooms of this store draw both casual shoppers and serious collectors with their mix of affordable gift ideas and expensive antiques. Set designers and photographers also come in to rent the rarities sold.
The Goods
A handful of present-day items blend with antique and vintage home furnishings. Advanced collectors come here for French and English art deco, 1950s and '60s furniture and a choice selection of Jonathan Adler ceramics. Retro chic admirers score tables and chairs from Herman Miller and Knoll & Associates. There's also a selection of Arts and Craft reproductions and shelves of vintage Life magazines (1936-1972). Contemporary accessories and gift items range from Asian figurines to decorative doorknob and light switch covers, pillows to handcrafted French puppets. Find oddities like a leopard print fez, a boxing nun puppet and a real dinosaur head and prehistoric egg.

Stay away from this store at all costs!! I thought that the store was incredible, friendly and quite charming, until I attempted to purchase a rocking chair. I bought the chair 6 weeks ago and it never arrived. After following up with the store time and time again, I was told that the chair was stolen and then when I requested a refund after a month, I was told that they did not have enough money to pay me back. I am going to have to final criminal charges against the owner to hopefully recover my payment. The worst consumer experience of my life.
Pros: NONE
Cons: Unreliable and boldly untruthful with consumers

This store is my favorite place in the city to browse. Great stuff I have seen there ranges from old French plates depicting boxing scenes to ultra modern cartoon bear lamps, The staff is low key and friendly, unlike some other expensive places with snobbish sales clerks. It does have a mix of cheap "fun" buys with higher-end stuff. My biggest problem is that I almost always find something out of my range that I desperately want. However, I have never regretted a splurge there including $500 sconces that elicit gasps from everyone who comes to my house.
Pros: Beautiful stuff!! The stuff of dreams!!
Cons: Be prepared to max out your credit card, parking is scarcer than it used to be
