What People Are Saying About Atlanta Book Exchange

The old house-cum-bookstore on North Highland Ave has a small open sign which reassuringly lets you know you aren't intruding on someone's abode. Walk up the porch steps and enter the packed-to-the-gills bookhaus. Each creaky step winds you around the seemingly endless rooms full of delightfully musty hardbacks and lightly-used paperbacks. ABE boasts a great classics section, along with a stout Lit Crit, American History, Biography, and Art section among others. The staff (usually just one person) is eager to help you find what you are looking for, and they surprisingly know exactly what…
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- If the tiny parking area in front is full, don't worry; a larger lot is located behind the store with plenty of "patron-only" spots.
- Know Before You Go:
- There's a method to the madness. Each of the shelves is marked with a small tab indicating the subject of each section.
- Save Money:
- The store's mixture of new and used books are all 5 to 40 percent off retail price.

My Favorite Bookshop
by ravenlikeawritingdesk
Every time I walk into this bookstore [like any other used bookstore] I think "they are never going to have this book. I haven't even found one 'real' book store in this city that has this book! I feel silly even for looking" and I walk in and find several copies of what I'm looking for right away... Perhaps Atlanta Book Exchange is enchanted but whatever the case it's the best in the city!
They have a terrific plays/drama/theater section. Which is especially exciting as all the other bookstores in town are pathetically wimpy.
- Pros: They have everything, easy to find things, friendly folk!
- Cons: ?
full of books, peaceful store

It's never the same to browse the books on ebay or amazon to find something valuable. Personally, I need to feel a book in my hand and go through the pages. Book Exchange not only allows me this, but there I can always find interesting books at attractive prices. The prices vary, some of the books are really really cheap, and some of them are just comparable to what you'd pay on amazon or at Barnes and Noble. But the collection is amazing! All collectible ones and no filled-out-template like best-best-best-seller(!) books pop up periodically.
The store is simple: packed and full of books. They're well organized, and it's easy to find something if you have some categories on your mind. If I were you I'd go there to find a good catch on a subject instead of a specific title on my mind. Wide open your eyes, there are some out-of-print books you cannot easily find elsewhere; so take your time and enjoy your search!
The owner of the store and the other people in charge are kind and helpful (if that really is a measure for you!).
Finally, I must mention that the store is next to the Aurora Cafe where you can enjoy the best coffee in Atlanta, I think. Grab a book and start reading it while you sip your delicious coffee.
- Pros: collection, prices, parking
- Cons: over-packed
