Tips for Atlanta Book Exchange

My Favorite Bookshop. Every time I walk into this bookstore [like any other used bookstore] I think "they are never going to have this book. I haven't even found one 'real' book store in this city that has this book! I feel silly even for looking" and I walk in and find several copies of what I'm looking for right away... Perhaps Atlanta Book Exchange is enchanted but whatever the case it's the best in the city!

They have a terrific plays/drama/theater section. Which is especially exciting as all the other bookstores in town are pathetically wimpy.

Old School Used Book Store Bursting with Books. The old house-cum-bookstore on North Highland Ave has a small open sign which reassuringly lets you know you aren't intruding on someone's abode. Walk up the porch steps and enter the packed-to-the-gills bookhaus. Each creaky step winds you around the seemingly endless rooms full of delightfully musty hardbacks and lightly-used paperbacks. ABE boasts a great classics section, along with a stout Lit Crit, American History, Biography, and Art section among others. The staff (usually just one person) is eager to help you find what you are looking for, and they surprisingly know exactly what area (and can sometimes pinpoint exact coordinates) each book is located. Prices are pretty standard percentages of list price - often 40% is the magic number.

full of books, peaceful store. It's never the same to browse the books on ebay or amazon to find something valuable. Personally, I need to feel a book in my hand and go through the pages. Book Exchange not only allows me this, but there I can always find interesting books at attractive prices. The prices vary, some of the books are really really cheap, and some of them are just comparable to what you'd pay on amazon or at Barnes and Noble. But the collection is amazing! All collectible ones and no filled-out-template like best-best-best-seller(!) books pop up periodically.

The store is simple: packed and full of books. They're well organized, and it's easy to find something if you have some categories on your mind. If I were you I'd go there to find a good catch on a subject instead of a specific title on my mind. Wide open your eyes, there are some out-of-print books you cannot easily find elsewhere; so take your time and enjoy your search!

The owner of the store and the other people in charge are kind and helpful (if that really is a measure for you!).

Finally, I must mention that the store is next to the Aurora Cafe where you can enjoy the best coffee in Atlanta, I think. Grab a book and start reading it while you sip your delicious coffee.

A cluttered old house in the Highlands is home to this no-frills bargain bookstore.. The Scene
Located in the heart of Virginia-Highlands, this small book store brings to mind the diminutive neighborhood vendors that permeated America before the chain giants came to town. The musty smell upon entering this old-house-turned bookstore nearly knocks you over; books of all types are packed into every inch of its interior. Just can't find what you're looking for? The knowledgeable and friendly staff is quick to lend a hand.

The Goods
A small selection of used books covering nearly every topic imaginable can be found on the eight-foot-high shelves lining the little rooms in this cozy store. Since space in the store is limited, come with an adventurous spirit rather than a specific title in mind to avoid disappointment. If you look hard enough, chances are you'll find a book or two you didn't know existed by one of your favorite authors.
