You gotta love it! – I love MJQ, I have been going there for about 3 years, and yea i was very unhappy they took away the deep house night on saturdays ( some are happy its gone), but its ok, the club is still basically the same and the crowd is as chill as ever. Expect a great sound system, quality music, and cheap drinks and entry fee ( if any).
Wednesday has become the new saturday, its always packed on wednesday, and its free, Fridays is hiphop and that packed as well, and so is saturday, a combo of dance music and indie rock in the cafe.
when your looking for something different from the usual midtown or buckhead action, then check it out, it will be an experince to say the least. This is a Real dance club!
What, someone suggested changes? Entry fee high? – This is the best, most gulliest, hypest dance club in the city hands down. Been going there strong for like seven years. Wednesday is FREE!, what do you mean high? Friday is bananas, and saturday is getting better again even though they got rid of the house music.
Biggest draws: Diversity, edgy, cheap drinks, cheap entry, real dancing, actual hooking up, interesting people, Best Music in the city.
Biggest flaws: Too many dudes sometimes, but otherwise, none.
Not for the Quwee! – I love MJQ! I recently went for the first time a couple of Saturdays ago. The crowd was very diverse which is what I love the most. I had been trying to go there for over a year and finally made it! The music was definitely "different." This cool underground parking garage is not for the pretentious or, what we Liberians like to call, Quwee! People go there to dance, not stand around looking cute. Beers are an average $4 but the cover charge was only......$5!!!! Can you believe that $5 to party in tha city?!! I can't wait to check out Friday nights!!
I love it!!!! – I am not a clubber, yet I would go to MJQ over and over again! It is one of the best places I have ever been. It is not too cool for school. It is affordable and the bartenders are great. And best of all is the music. Saturday and Wednesday nights are the best. Go there. Do it.
Real Club. Real Music. Real Underground. – Best and only club worth going to in the city if your going out for music and dancing. Only club in Atlanta that comes close to representing a true underground scene. Weekend warriors need not apply.
Hidden nightspot dips below the trendy club radar, attracting a scene-savvy crowd and some of the city's best DJs. – The Scene
This subterranean nightclub has been the backbone of Atlanta's underground club scene since its debut in the basement of the Ponce de Leon Hotel in 1994. In 1997, it moved to its current spot in an old parking garage and changed its name to MJQ Concourse. The dark decor, with its glowing, centrally placed bar and cozy dance floor, makes for some of the best clubbing in Atlanta. In the side room, complete with a second bar and additional DJ booth, crimson walls are painted with friendly caricatures of imaginary MJQ patrons. Comfy couches dot the small room, giving it a more intimate feel than the basement-like main room.
The diverse crowd and equally eclectic music lineup keep those who care about the music coming back. House, hip-hop, Brit-pop, drum and bass, reggae, downtempo and two-step garage all make regular appearances, as does the occasional art show.
not just hip-hop – i've been a patron of this bar and the original one for over 7 years, and i have seen some pretty major changes. the britpop/indierock kids that kept this place going have been pushed aside for the hip-hop crowd, but at least we still have wednesdays...i love this bar, and if you aren't into all that hip-hop/techno stuff you can always have a great time on wednesdays in the big room and saturdays in the cafe. the new room, the drunken unicorn, also has great bands all the time. the decor was done by some really talented guys and you feel like you've stepped into some mod spaceship in the big room, an alcoholic cafe in the other room, and the drunken unicorn is breathtaking.
It's ok, but could use a few changes! – MJQ is the place you go after the clubs are closing. It really doesn't get going until probably about 1am. Entry fee is a little high, drinks are a bit of a rip off, and it's CASH ONLY. It's fun because it's different and diverse, but it is so incredibly dark that you can barely see faces, and it's not the easiest place to meet someone. If they would turn up some lights and take check cards, it'd be a more practical club.
Never Dissappoints – This club never dissappoints. If you are ever bored of the club you're dancing in, then move you butt to MJQ. Great Vibe. Great Music. Great People. Nuff Said.
basement dance club – it's all about the music and the timing at this club, literally 100% underground. i've been 3 times and the place was never bumbin, just so so. it's not a trendy place, more of an off the wall joint. casual to hip hop dress. the music is good but fairly repetitive, even for the dance genre. it's dark and open late. and that's about it.
