“snooty bartenders (i dont know why i still even tip them sometimes), cash only, parking,”
“Although i love the bar and location, there are a few bartenders that can be difficult and even ask you to leave for no reason even if you are sober and abiding (it happened one night when i was DD!)”
“The new faces keep the club fresh, and the regulars make the place still matter.”
“great music, theme nights, respectful diverse crowd, 2 seperate rooms”
“It is a great place to visit on a wednesday or friday night with a close group of friends and dance.”
“Great place to people watch too.”
“need a place where the music is good, the atmosphere is laidback, the drinks and cover are cheap, and the service is not rude and condescending to the people they are serving.”
“Also, on a side note, the bartenders are slow and rude and every door person I've ever encountered there has been rude in some way, just talking badly about people for no reason and stuff.”
hot beats, great crowd, guiltless dancin & boozin, chill atmosphere. I've been going here for the past 3 years and I always have a blast. The headline pretty much says it all, although I'd like to add that my favorite thing about this place is how everyone does their own thing and no one seems to mind. No militant, angry bouncers here either - hate those guys. A must-go for any visitor or Atl resident.
It's ok. Vibe was only OK. I felt like I didn't fit in with the crowd. But other than that, the drinks pretty pretty decent and not too expensive
One of my All-Time Favs!!!!.
MJQ has a very distinctive mood. Its dimmly lit and moody. Amazing dancefloors in different rooms. Went there once and cant wait to go back. Very cool fun crowd. Be prepared to walk in and find people in their 40's and then turn around and see people in their 20's. Its a pretty mixed crowd and the style is very cool and kind of has a reggae feel on the night i went.
WARNING: if you want the typical upscale nighclub thing then this place isnt for you. This place is underground, has a very dark ambiance, can get kinda hot, and has a diverse local crowd.
SO MUCH FUN!!!.
I just moved to town from Nashville and have heard of this place for years. I met some friends at MJQ's last Saturday and it was THE best time I've had at a club in a loong time. Completely diverse crowd in every way without even a hint of pretensiousness. I was on the main floor dancing the whole night to music that somehow managed to satisfy every genre backed up with house beats and electronica. I love this place and can't wait to go again next saturday. The B boys and girls were also a major highlight.
The only negative points were the bartenders AND the fact that they only accept cash. Their ATM was broken and we had to cross Ponce (in 4"heels) to use the one at Kroger.
The bartenders acted as if it were a lazy sunday afternoon and completely lacked any sense of urgency in serving their customers at a very crowded bar. Do what I did and give your $ to your buddy to get the drinks while you enjoy the non-stop good music:)
MJQ: the crowd is great, but some of the bartenders are horrible..
Although i love the bar and location, there are a few bartenders that can be difficult and even ask you to leave for no reason even if you are sober and abiding (it happened one night when i was DD!). I am not sure if it is because many underage customers sneak in which causes the bartenders to be extra suspicious of younger looking legal customers who buy drinks for their friends. or maybe some of the bartenders just have an attitude and don't want to serve people they don't personally approve of for some ridiculous or pretentious reason.
At any rate, the community of the customers in the bar is wonderful and if you are a girl hoping to not get groped all night, you will love how much more respectful the majority of men are in this bar. It is a great place to visit on a wednesday or friday night with a close group of friends and dance. It is a funky and very trendy hangout without the pretentious air... lets hope it stays that way and that some of the bartenders either shape up or ship out because they are KILLING THE VIBE.
If you are the type of person who needs a clean bathroom and steriotype crowd, this is not the place for you. The local customers are what truly makes this place magical.
pros: great music, theme nights, respectful diverse crowd, 2 seperate rooms
cons: snooty bartenders (i dont know why i still even tip them sometimes), cash only, parking,
Club. BRING BACK DEEP HOUSE SATURDAY NIGHTS. PUL-LEEZE. I miss it so much, I gotta have house. PLEASE, PLEASE.
Hot Scene!. loved this place...great mix of atlantan's...top knotch DJs!! a must-go on the 30 and under ATL tour!
Horrid service.
I was there this past Saturday and I tried to order drinks and once they were ordered I tried to pay for the drinks. The Bartender ignored me and when I finally got to pay for them he was rude and told me to leave the bar and I wasn't welcome back.
If this is how this establishment chooses to treat their customers, that's awesome, but I was the DD for friends of mine and ordering for them, so I was stone cold sober, I just wanted to pay for the drinks. I guess they want people to drink and drive and I suppose they don't care about anything but the money.
This place was horrible. I've never been treated like this from a place that considers itself "trendy", and if this is the trend, then it's sad to see the way things are going in this city.
I highly reccomend finding someplace else that respects it's customers that are both responsible and honest. This establishment does not.
Over Forty, And Still Dance The Night Away! DJ's Rock!. Yes I'm over forty, but I know where to go and dance the night away. The crowd is half my age, but everyone is very friendly, and fun. The DJ's are the best in the city. And they cover all genre's of Dance Music! And it's on that wonderful, trashy Ponce de Leon, across from the Clairmont Hotel. You even run into Blondie here! Drinks are on target.
wanna dance, and have room to do so?. Avoid the long lines and crowds, and get your dance on at MJQ. Great dj's spinning the best dance hits. Great place to people watch too.
