George's is a comfy, neighborhood friendly tavern right in the middle of the Virgina Highlands. George's has been family owned and operated
since 1961 and has become a Highlands' institution. George's plays host to numerous neighborhood functions, such as the weekly running group that meets here every Wednesday evening. Come watch your favorite sporting event on of our TVS and enjoy one of our famous hand pattied burgers made from 100% ground chuck beef and char-broiled to perfection. We also have a great beer selection available, both in draft and in the bottle.
George's can accomodate private parties up to 20 people in our private upstairs room and 30 people in our new dining area downstairs.
So if your looking for good burgers, friendly people and a good time, come to George's.

Over 50 years old and still kicking, George's gives newfangled burger eateries a run for their money.
Best Burgers!!. Fantastic burgers- they come in two sizes so you don't have to have a huge burger if you don't need it. Ice cold beer. Best service anywhere in the Highlands. Great sides.
Great burgers, where they know your name. This is a great, low-key neighborhood bar where the locals go for cold beer and great bugers and bar food. The weekly trivia is fun, and I've gone a few times with the weekly running group on Wednesdays. It's the only place I've ever gone where the staff recognized me and learned my name. It still captures the laidback feel of the Va-Highlands.
Filthy dirty combined with Iffy Service but Great Burgers. I ate there on a Saturday afternoon with two friends. The burgers were really good. Six thumbs up! The service was not very good, though. I also noticed that the chain lamps hanging over each booth were filthy. Good thing I didn't notice that till after we ate, or I would have left.
Burgers, Beer and Rings oh my. This is a wonderful hidden gem tucked away in the highlands. Take my advise order the 8oz Blue Cheese Burger with a nice cold beer and you are set.The onion rings are amazing and for just for a mere 50 cents extra...what a steal. This place is a great cozy spot where you can actually hear the person across from you and still have your voice in the morning. I highly recommend this neighborhood spot.
Great Burgers. Dark Oasis..
I love places like George's: Inside is a cool dark faux-wood paneling atmosphere, booths that have been there since before the Reagan adminstration, and cold Newcastle on tap. There is no pretense about this place. It is a dark and cool oasis from the dreadful summer heat of the city.
The burger with Blue Cheese is amazing. Don't waste your time ordering the 5 oz, go ahead and get the 8 oz, you won't regret it. And get the Onion Rings for an extra fifty cents..well worth it.
If I was talented enough to write a novel this is the place I would do it. It could easily be the Sloppy Joe's for some future Hemingway.
Good Prices, Friendly Wait Staff, and excellent burgers make this place destination location when visiting the Virginia Highlands.
The last bastion of decency in the Highlands. Great mix of people. Great service. Always friendly. Absolutely no attitude. Completely laid-back. Good food. Cold beer. Ample seating. Love the decor (especially around the holidays). It's been one of my favorite bars in Atlanta for years, and is the only bar I really like going to in the Highlands.
A local hub for lovers of cheap beer, burgers and a gritty, down-to-earth atmosphere..
The Scene
It's a slice of Americana filling two essential niches, a bar-lover's bar and a burger-lover's heaven. It's like a cleaner Moe's & Joe's with a bigger, better burger. Established in 1961, George's hasn't changed much and therein lies the charm. During the warmer months, patrons prefer to kick back with a beer and a burger at one of the outside tables. Venture inside and find 1960s-era booths, video games, TVs, sports memorabilia, and a musty bar in the back. Over the years, it's become a bit rough around the edges, but the no-pretense atmosphere, prime Highland locale and affordable comfort food give this burger joint enough appeal to make it a popular hangout. Burgers--big or small, plain or smothered in Swiss cheese and mushrooms--have gained quite a devout local obsession. Although there's a hit-or-miss quality to them, a $5 basket of comfort grub will make just about anyone happy.
Try the Nachos. I simply love the Chicken nachos at this place. I go here for lunch often. Its not too crowded or loud and the food is excellent.
Mmmmmmm Burgerrrrr. This is what I call a burger! Ive eaten a burger or two in my life time and this is what a burger is supposed to be like. Many varieties of burgers, I look forward to trying them all! Great service as well. I was impressed to say the least.
