The Scene
Decorated in pink trimmings and feminine mystique, this delicate shop in Virginia-Highlands bears a likeness to a classic antique dollhouse. Charming and charismatic, the shop is styled with period decor--oversized, big-bowed hatboxes mixed with colorful hanging ribbon and floral displays. Soft pink walls and a floor-to-ceiling antique mirror carry the pristine twinkle into the fitting room area. Two plush lounging sofas in the store's center add a homey touch.
The Goods
European fashions with vintage-style cuts and materials are the shop's namesake, including everything from lacy lingerie to box-cut capris to flowing chiffon skirts. An abundance of lace, silk, Lycra and polyester dominate the selection. A collection of pricey (most over $500), elegant, beaded evening dresses straight from a fairytale take up one corner of the store and are a hit with bridal parties. Other gems for sale include hats reminiscent of Virginia Woolf, sparkly jewelry, fashion eyewear, scented sachets and vintage handbags.

mooncake clothing has been a staple in atlanta for over thrity years. after all these years, i own many pieces that are now VINTAGE MOONCAKE. the staff is truly a sisterhood. there is no such thing as a stanger..all are welcomed and waited on as if they were royalty. the creativity and talent of the owner, janer armell, is unsurpassed! she does such a good job, i RARELY have to go anywhere else! dressy, causual, more casual..... if you want something different and stylish with the love and attention of great women, come on in ...and you too will one day soon have VINTAGE MOONCAKE......always wearable; certainly complimentable and oh so perfect!

In the back room of Mooncake you will find the selection of bridal dresses but this is not the focus of this store. Some of the staff is knowlegeable and helpful, and some will just leave you to fend for yourself. I found a gorgeous dress at Mooncake but was told that it could not be ordered in another size (it was at least 3 sizes too big) and the person who helped me on the first occasion I was there told me that she would not give me the information on the designer, nor was anyone able to give me any information on the dress beyond the price and eventually the designer. Mooncake does not have an in-house person to do alterations so they will not be responsible if something goes wrong. On the other hand, they will let you take any dress to the seamstress they recommend for advice on whether the dress can be altered as long as you leave your credit card and bring the dress back the same day.

Parking:
Street parking is limited and the small pay lot at the nearby gas station has only a few spots for $6.
Look Good:
Ask for help if the sizes look fishy, as many of the European designs use unconventional sizing (i.e. 1, 2 and 3 for Small, Medium and Large).
Know Before You Go:
Returns are good for store credit only with receipt within seven days of purchase--so make sure that $500 evening dress is worth it!
