The Scene – A warm airiness fills this popular neighborhood bakery. Baskets brim with husky fresh-baked loaves; golden croissants hover on a cooling rack. Pastries, cookies and scones stock the display cases. Budget-free party planners, gift hunters and novice gourmands drop in, while stroller-jogging Morningsiders and cookie monsters sneak out. – – The Food – Life really is better in Morningside: double chocolate chunk cookies to be purchased by the pound, lemon squares, midnight cake, old-school French pastries, Heath bar crusted brownies. A Fantastic Euro-style bakery
by ryansims at Citysearch
As close as Atlanta has to a European-style bakery, Alon's offers up fresh breads, cheeses, meats, sandwiches, and prepared foods to its Morningside neighbors. Inside, different areas house different products. There is a cheese case, a wine area, and cases for salads and meats to eat in or take out. Grab a butcher paper wrapped mozzarella, sun dried tomato, and arugula sandwich on focaccia, or a cup of the ever changing soup du jour menu (grab the tomato-basil if available). Outside are wicker seats and tiny tables to chow down atop the white paper bags the food is stuffed in.
- Pros: Amazing selection of delicious ready-to-eats
- Cons: Occasional awkward seating for groups of 3 or more
