Editorial Review for Genki Restaurant & Bar – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
A few steps removed from beer-guzzling Buckhead, Genki uses an aquarium's eerie light and a semi-spacious deck to attract a crowd of manicured young professionals. Service could be nastily hip but isn't. Drum and bass music keeps the servers moving well into the late-night, sushi-munching shift.
The Food
Genki dishes up the perfect menu for those who love the idea of sushi but can't get used to eating raw fish. So it's best to ignore the small tough nigiri and all but the most bastardized of the maki. Stick with something like the fried super crunch. Loaded with cream cheese, remoulade and teriyaki sauce, it's as Americanized as jalapeno poppers and has the same kind of junk food appeal. Rice and noodle bowls de-emphasize the flavors of the fish and other toppings, but manage to taste great while doing so.

I tried meeting a friend here for drinks yesterday evening and it's all closed up. Curious, I tried the website, but I don't get a response: www.genki-inc-dotcom and tried calling (404) 869-8319. So I guess they are closed up. It's no great loss to the dining community, as I gave up on the food. The fish was always poor quality, in my opinion. People seemed to like the deck. Mostly this was a place to drink and people watch, and you could often find one of the owners Reid or Rob, seemingly drunk and hitting on whatever skirt was nearby. It's too bad to see the small business owner fail. They were obnoxious, but it was part of Buckhead growing up. I'll remember Genki with the same nostalgia as I remember my fine days at the Varsity in college...better to remember than to repeat!
Pros: Nice scenery walking in
Cons: Poor food, poorly managed, obnoxious staff

This place was so OVER RATED!!! The cuts of fish were terrible. The food was supposedly from the owners' time in highschool in Japan somewhere, but the two guys had no idea. They must have lived there in high school, because most of the "Japanese" food is "street food", meaning that you eat it from a truck on the street for five bucks, but of course it was much more at Genki. So -- Over priced and underserviced. What a terrible concept. Maybe the people up in Cobb County will like it!
Pros: Location was great in Buckhead, but they moved!
Cons: Overpriced and bad service. Smells like mildew.
