DONT GO – .
This was the worst dining experience my husband and I have ever had. We were not even halfway through our salad when our dinners arrived, 15 minutes too early, then having to wait until our waiter finally brought them back as they had been sitting under a warming light that whole time, drying medallions of what was supposed to be filet minon, turning them to shoe leather. The food itself was not of nice frensh restaurant quality. The chicken tasted as if it came out of a can of chef boyardee. I told the waiter of our displeasure, with little response except for a cold, "how dare you complain" attitude. We then left the food and will never again return to this restaurant. Cold, arrogant service, food brought too early and served dry and almost inedible. Our overall experience should be a rating of 0 stars. We will be sure to pass on to as many people as possible how deplorably horrible our experience, ....BAD BAD BAD SERVICE AND TASTELESS FOOD
We were totally impressed – This is a casual French Bistro. Unlike typical French restaurants, they do give you generous portions. I had the duck confit and mushroom salad, which was loaded with shredded duck on a bed of greens and mushrooms. If you wish, you can ask them to hold the mushrooms, it'll be just as good. I did not order the mussels, but they looked yummy. My husband ordered their special - monk fish, well worth the money. To top it off, their prices are great. This restaurant definitely climbed onto our favorite list. Bon Appetit.
Pleasant Atmosphere – The overall experience was very enjoyable. We sat on the porch which was great. There is a good selection of wines by the glass. The menu is good, not great. I would say the best part of the experience was the low-key atmosphere that allowed for conversation.
Unlike any restaurant in the city – This is a find. Only locals here. Let the staff order for you. You just can't go wrong.
This is as far away from a chain as you can get...................
Casual Fine Dining – My boyfriend and I went to Anis last night to celebrate his birthday. We decided to go there just because we got $10 gift certificate from restaurant-dot-com and the description on that website sounded good. We made a reservation, but it didn't seem necessary when we got there. We sat on the patio where there was a live jazz band. The asmosphere was lovely and casual. Although people around us were above 50 and dressed sophisticated, we felt very comfortable. (We were in jeans and sneakers.) The waiters/waitresses/ were nice and pateint. They had to stop by 3-4 times before we could make a decision. Everything on the menu sounded great with an unexpectedly low prices, for the quality. We both agreed that they definitely gave us more food than other French restaurants. We ordered Escagots, Anis Bouillabaisse, and a rabbit pasta dish, and they were fantastic. The cook used a lot of herbs, especially garlic and paper in the escargots, which I loved. At the end of the meal, we got a chocolate cake and coffees. When the bill came, we chatted with the waitress and told her that it was my boyfriend's birthday before giving her my card. She came back with the new bill and the cake was taken out. We were surprised.
Bottom line: if you want fine food without dressing up, Anis is the best place. For a great bargain, buy a gift certificate from restaurant-dot-com.
Perfect "Buckhead" Lunch! – On the way to Lenox Square today, to finish the last of our Holiday Shopping, we decided to treat ourselves to the perfect Buckhead lunch. And what a tasty treat it was. We started with a nice glass of Clois de Bois, and both ordered the perfect French Onion Soup. Plenty of hot melted cheese, nicely browned around the edges, and just sweet enough. I had Anis's perfect Chicken Marsala, and my partner had Veal Piccata. Portions were on target, and excellent service by our French waitron. We love this place, so do the Buckhead Betty's. They always provide us with that perfect little touch of catty entertainment.
C'est La Vie – Anis is just what I have been looking for in Atlanta. It is small, unique, eclectic, had great jazz music, delisous French food (try the escargot!), and a delightful French waitress. The atmosphere was perfect for a date, although I would definately go back there for a night with friends. You definatley don't feel like you are in Atlanta!
Most authentic – Anis is a true Atlantan jewel. The food is superb and the atmosphere is authentic and very romantic. You truly feel as though you are in a bistro or cafe in the South of France. The moules frites taste as though you ordered them in a Parisian bistro. The food and wine is affodably priced and Anis is the perfect place to take a date.
Great food and atmosphere; WORST service in town – I went to Anis last night with three friends. We were seated promptly out on the lovely patio, no problem. Then the problems started.
We were not given menus when we sat down and only 3 of us were given water. We tried to flag down a staffperson for menus, but they totally ignored us. They breezed by us time after time to tend to tables that were seated after us. Even when we made eye contact and waved to the waitresses, they just walked away. Finally, someone told us that the restaurant was out of menus - nice try, but we were sitting right next to the host's table and watched him pass 6 or 7 menus on to other tables. It took half an hour to get ONE menu for the table - the other three never came. We placed our orders more than half an hour after we sat down.
The wine list is good and my glass of wine came quickly, but the staff forgot about the bottle my friends ordered until after we had finished our appetizers - we had to remind them to bring it. I had to ask two different people for a glass so I could taste it.
The food is excellent, but the timing was off - we didn't get the silverware we needed when we got our food and they were slow to fill water glasses.
We did end up getting our wine for free, but it just didn't make up for the awful service - what was most frustrating was watching the staff tend to all of the tables around us while completely ignoring me and my friends. We had a feeling it was because of our age - we are all in our early 20s and were the youngest looking party there.
Bottom line: The atmosphere is wonderful, the wine is good, and the food is really tasty - but if you're not a distinguished-looking Buckhead native decked out in designer clothes, expect terrible service.
AUTHENTIC AND LOVELY!! – This place reminds me of classic great little hideaway bistros in small villages. I love to hear them speaking French in the bar. The steak frites are delicious, have it with a nice cote du rhone!!
I would imagine that the people that complain about service are used to having their a**es smooched elsewhere-that is not considered service to the French. They take the time, as you should when you are enjoying a meal.
