Chops Lobster Bar is one of the older steakhouses in Buckhead but remains a favorite for locals and visitors.
Go Elsewhere for a Good Steak
I have visited Chops several times and without fail they always overcook the steaks. I always ask for medium rare, but get medium well to well, and I do not always feel like waiting around to send the steak back.
I can tell you that this is the last time I eat at Chops. If you want a consistent restaurant for steaks in the area, I recommend the Capital Grille and Flemings near Perimeter Mall, my all time favorite is Bones in Buckhead.
If you are going to pay top of the line prices the food should reflect it.
Excellent Service. I go here for most of my special occasions and appreciate that the staff recognizes me and treats me with respect. Great place to go and enjoy a great streak or lobster
Overrated.
I was excited to try Chops since I've heard wonderful things about this place. Service was great. WE started with a bread basket....just ok. Then I had the lobster bisque, which a friend has raved about, just blah to me. Then at the recommendation of one of the folks I was dining with, I ordered the surf and turf. I wasn't expecting my surf to be fried, and my medium-well steak was way overdone. While is was seasoned perfectly, I couldn't enjoy it. I didn't send it back because I was there for lunch and had limited time. My mac & cheese side was overrated and so were the mashed potatoes. My friend ordered the scallops and I was shocked that they were battered as well.
Maybe I'll give them another try but I'll stick to Capital Grille. I've actually had better food at Longhorn and Ruth Chris . Price doesn't always dictate quality.
Best steaks in atlanta. When other reviews mention Ruth Chris and Long Horns while writing a review about Chops as a long time customer I am insulted. Best steaks in Atlanta......period!
Don't go if you're not rich looking. Was approached as I walked in and told that what I was wearing was not appropriate attire for the restaurant. Was wearing nice button down shirt with cargo style pants, and my wife was wearing a sweater and slacks. My son is 5 and was wearing what all 5 year olds wear. Saw on the website that the restaurant was supposed to be "upscale casual", however was then informed at the door after making a reservation the it was "Business Casual" which apparently includes a tie and jacket. I wear equipment every day in afghanistan that is more expensive than this guy's entire wardrobe and he has the nerve to say he won't serve me and my family. What a way to treat a Vet. Do not go unless you are trying to impress your date with how much money you are willing to waste for no real purpose. Ended up going to Ruth's Chris Steak House. Had a GREAT waiter, great food, awesome ambiance. Chops is for suckers.....
CHOPS NOT SO HOT.
First visit was not so hot. Steaks were average, service was average, ambience was like a fancy Longhorn., crowded and noisy. Crab cakes were TERRIFIC!
Not worth $100 a pop.
I could drink the lobster bisque through a straw!.
Fine dining at its best... A step more casual than Chops above it, but with no cut corners on the menu.
Most delicious lobster bisque that I actually ordered an additional bowl, and upon sampling mine, 2 other diners at my table ordered a bowl as well. I had the salmon as my entree and was blown away by the freshness and seasoning of the fish. My meal was accompanied witht the special martini of the evening and I could not have been more pleased.
The staff, although experienced, was not much of a modern upbeat group and some of the beverages went empty to long, considering the caliber and accolade of the restaurant.
I would most definely dine again and would consider such a venue for lunch dining as well.
Worth The Money Spent. This is a very upscale restaurant that I would reccommend to anyone that loves fine dining!!! The food is sensationable... The dishes are expensive, but who cares gas is nearly $5.00 a gallon so why not pay good money for good food and great service!!!
Low Class Service, High Price Meal. After having dinner at the Lobster Bar with my significant other Friday night, we can honestly say that we not be returning. Upon arriving we were immediately seated and to our dismay our table was extremely unbalanced to the point our water would spill out of the glass if the table was bumped. I actually had to ask our waiter to put something under the table to prevent it from shaking. Dealling with a shaky table would have been OK within itself however the unfortunate experience did not stop there. When his 4lb Lobster was brought out over cooked and unseasoned the evening continued to get worse. He wasn't even able to finish it because it was so poorly cooked. We continued to try and enjoy the evening as much as possible and I decided not to complain at that point because we really just wanted to leave. The next morning he went out to start his truck and the battery was dead. Why? Because the valet turned on his lights instead of keeping them on automatic lights. His lights had been on all night because of a valet mistake. On Sunday I decided to call and express my concerns to the manager. Not because we wanted to be compensated because we already decided we would not be visiting there again, but in hopes another customer didn't experience what we did. The manager who I expressed my concerns to had an excuse for everything. The table was shakey because it was half on carpet and half on tile. The lobster was rubbery because it was a 4lb lobster. The valets always turn the lights on fully. As a customer of such a high profile restaurant I expect my concerns to be heard out with out excuses being made. If 4lb lobsters are rubbery then why serve them on your menu? If having tables split on carpet and tile causes instabilty find something to fix the issue prior to the customer sitting down? An experienced valet would know the difference between automatic lights and manual lights if he looked at the dial when he touched it? Low Class Service.
