Atlanta >Underground Atlanta
“(higher per capita violent crime statistics than LA,NY and Chicago)-Dont expect a pleasant, fun experience!”
“authentic and stylish Affrican clothing”
“to me it is a good place to get a variety of items and the food is good too.”
“As a native of Atlanta and a local I have to say that Underground is a good place to visit.”
“this a place of class and comfort not much fun and play but breath taking views and miles of interesting people and booths in all i would not take kids to it but mature adults with patience and time can enjoy the coca cola musuem for the cheap”
“It is conviniently located right in the downtown so I think it's worth a short trip to see the interesting”
NOT SAFE!. Im from NY and i can to Atlanta for a business trip and thought it was a good idea to visit underground Atlanta the website makes this place seen like you HAVE to stop there but NO im a 24 your old female my co-worker and i decided on are last day to go see the place take a few pictures and have a nice time out and thinking because it was recommended in top 50 things to do in Atlanta we would go well we took the Marta and when we arrived there were lots of people which is fine i've been to NYC but never in my life did i feel unsafe men were calling us snow bunny's every 5 steps we took preceding to tell us how cute and little we were while approaching us trying to grab us up!! thank god we got out of there without being hurt robbed beaten or even raped! a friendly suggestion if you don't have to go there DON'T!
Not So Great. This place is horrible. Mostly all the stores are useless, you've got people running around acting like hoodlums, and to top it off you have homeless people begging for money every 10 feet.
Underground Atlanta is Very Unique: A place all tourists go!.
There are always something new going on at the underground in Atlanta such as the new Dupsies African clothing store with the unique clothing for all, the styles are not only unique but cut across all ages. My feelings and view of underground Atlanta stores can be callibrated in the poem below:
I must go to underground Atlanta again
for the call of the latest in african attires
Is a loud call and a sure call
that won't be just a fad
and all I ask is a happy day
and free parking for all shoppers
to make buying a glorious affairs
with credit cards and palstic bags
and no more crying for lack of
authentic and stylish Affrican clothing
to adore the black history month
for all african weddings, naming outfits,
office and church outfits
and other special occassions
A mirror into our past far beyond
the african pyramids in Egypt
I must go down to underground Atlanat again!

Wow stay away. We drove around the Underground part of Atlanta fully expecting to get out and do some shopping because several internet sites recommended this as a great historic shopping area. This was at 5 - 6 pm, not yet dark out. There was NO WAY we were about to get out of the car. I am serious, there was a very very dangerous vibe to this part of town. It was crowded, police everywhere, people cruising all over the street almost hitting us... NOT tourist friendly at all. The Atlantic shopping area is the way to go, outdoor layout and great selection of stores! Atlanta, you have to do something about the Underground - the dangerous 'vibe' was a big turnoff and it is obvious that other nearby areas in Downtown are suffering because of the chaos of the Underground. I go to NYC every year, and i have spent time in several other big cities as well and I have absolutely never felt so unsafe as I did driving near the Underground.
Underground is unique and safe. As a native of Atlanta and a local I have to say that Underground is a good place to visit. The crime that some have associated with Underground and the area are not so. I have lived in Downtown Atlanta and work across the street from Underground at Georgia State University for over 25 years. You do NOT need to walk in fear around underground. That does not mean that you should not exercise caution, especially at night. Unfortunately the World of Coke has moved to Centennial Park next to the Georgia Aquarium so that major tourist draw is gone. Still its worth a check out.
Atlanta is not safe. Atlanta has been over hyped and 'PR sanitized'-the reality is far different!(higher per capita violent crime statistics than LA,NY and Chicago)-Dont expect a pleasant, fun experience! If you are not within eye ball range of a uniformed Police Officer-You Are Not Safe In Atlanta!-Get a concealed weapons permit and legally carry concealed if you plan on spending any time in the downtown or midtown atlanta area, carry pepper spray(aim for the eyes- Run!)-It can save your life
BE careful while in the streets.... Really good shopping , but the area isn't the safest. There are a few good restaurants and a few night clubs. Its a cool hang, but be sure to have a ton of friends with you.
A disgrace to Atlanta. Family visited Undergropund Atlanta several years ago (maybe late 90's) Back 8/08--dirty, not safe, gangsta adults and kids bunched up in groups all over blocking sidewalks. I don't think we have ever been so disappointed in a place in our lives. This is a disgrace to Atlanta. We have spoke to over 25 people in past 2 weeks on this and all feel the same. Atlanta--get this cleaned up!!!!
The Night Life. My husband & I went to the underground to party on Friday & Saturday night. We both LOVED it we are going back next month. We are from Annapolis Md. We never experianced so much fun with so many mature fun loving people. We have no place like that in Maryland to party. I recommend the underground night life to everyone over 21 looking for a good time.
