Editorial Review for Nikolai's Roof – by Suzanne Wright
In Short
This Atlanta classic is a ravishing jewel box of sumptuous red, black and gold carpeting, upholstery and china. A galaxy of lights adorns the ceiling, while the city twinkles below panoramic windows. The strains of a harpist accompany the flourish of each extravagantly presented course. A popular starter is seared foie gras atop mixed greens. Perfectly grilled swordfish is topped with truffle shavings. Finish your meal with the glorious signature Grand Marnier souffle.

My husband and I live in Charleston SC, and our wedding planner took us to Nikolai's when we were in Atlanta, and we were extremely impressed. The Cuisine is was phenomenal and the atmosphere was incredibly romantic. We have recommended Nikolai's to all of our family that lives in the Atlanta area.
Pros: Fantastic Cuisine, Great Ambiance
Cons: Quite Pricey

Visited "The Roof" with my wife last night and was very pleased. It's a beautiful place and the view to the North is fantastic. We had the "Chefs Menu" with wine pairings. I have to say, I found the food to be a little inconsistent for the money. My first dish, a three meat filled pastries (beef, pheasant and crab) with a bernaise dipping sauce was fabulous. So so delicate and flakey! The next dish, fresh oysters prepared three ways, was just OK. The next was a spinach/crab souffle along with a risotto cake, both were just "very good", not fantastic. The main was lobster with crab ravioli and it was wonderful. The much anticipated Grand Marnier souffle was a real disappointment. It was perfectly prepared but was way too "eggy". Not sweet at all and just not very good. The last offering was a chocolate truffle (wonderful), strawberry dipped in chocolate (good) and the best almond cookie I've ever tasted! Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy in the middle. I didn't know a cookie could be so good! So I know it may seem like I was not very happy with the food overall but as for food alone, I'm comparing this dinner to those I've had at other fine restaurants (The Dining Room, Baccanalia, Rathbuns, Food Studio, Pano's and Pauls etc.) Tob to bottom, the meal was just not as good as many I've had. Also, $510 including tip was steep by any measure. BUT, the overall experience was great. The beautiful dining room, the uniformed wait staff with their red coats and white gloves, the attentive and excellent overall service and lastly, a view that can't be beat in Atlanta dining. I would have not problem recommending Nikolas to anyone who can afford do drop half a grand on dinner. A very nice evening...
Pros: Beautiful room, ambiance and service and a simply wonderful view.
Cons: Rather spendy and some of the food this particular evening could have been better.
