The Scene – Friedman's--which opened in 1927--is a living museum where athletes' jerseys and photographs autographed by everyone from Martin Lawrence to Tommy Lasorda grace the wall. Ladies' shoes are two doors down, with a much smaller, but equally divine collection of Italian leather shoes. – – The Goods – Men shouldn't miss…
Buying Shoe's Here Since A Kid!
by jaymaygm
My grandfather brought me here as a kid to buy shoes, and said never pay retail. Retail is a nasty word I soon learned, but respected when I became a buyer for the late great Rich's Department Store. I was still a customer here while a student at GSU. I would run into Atlanta's powerbroker's, like Miles B. Lane, of C&S Bank fame, and we were all looking for a good value. The building is tacky, walk-up, and wonderful with no hard selling, if you like, you buy, and if you don't who cares. I love this place still, and I think Murray might still be here, God bless him. Now all the sports pros buy shoes by the dozens, but some of us poor little Jewish boys still shop here. It's Atlanta's history!
- Pros: Best Prices! Best Selection! Seasoned Staff!
- Cons: Hard To Park! Run-Down Building-Who Cares!
