The Scene – Located in a former bank lobby, this downtown favorite bustles with executives during the week and couples and families on weekends. Just right for closing deals or celebrating special occasions, City Grill's interior is formal, yet inviting. Marble pillars rise to meet an ornate ceiling and rich leather accents complement white linen. Servers are attentive and well-versed in seasonal ingredients. – – The Food – Though there are few misses, seafood offerings are the strongest of the menu's nouveau Southern dishes. For starters, try tender hickory…

One of the best restaurants I've been to

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there recently. The atmosphere was elegant. The waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. The food was amazing! We ordered the fried cuttlefish as our appetizer. It was soft and tender and the batter was not too thick. For the main, we ordered the filet mignon. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had. It came with mashed purple potatoes, which was absolutely delicious!
- Pros: Delicious food. Great atmosphere.
- Cons: A little pricey.

The name City Grille conjures up a pedestrian, diner like atmosphere. You can imagine the waitress sporting a pencil in the bun of her hair asking if you want ?mo' cawfee?. A diner it is not. City Grille is an elegant restaurant housed in a former Federal reserve Bank building. It is beautifully decorated with Italian marble, gorgeous chandeliers, and a grand staircase to the balcony, should you choose to dine there.
The lamb lollipops appetizer were superb, wonderfully seasoned and perfectly presented to my order of just slightly more cooked than medium.
I had the house salad vinaigrette that was just light and creamy enough to allow the flavor of the greens, tomatoes, and fried onions to come through. The hostess explained the differences between the 3 cheeses on the cheese plate. The tiny grapes and strawberries provided sweet bursts of flavor to contrast with the cheeses that my wife had.
My main course was the springer chicken, also delightfully seasoned, tender and moist thanks to its tomato broth base and vegetable accompaniment. All of the flavors complemented each other. Who knew that a simple chicken dish could be prepared so well? My wife had venison for the first time. As well prepared as this, served on a bed of orzo and colorful squash, it won't be the last.
Two desserts overwhelmed: the homemade cheesecake with raspberry glaze, and the decadent chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Forget the diet for once!
We must compliment John Paul our waiter. He was congenial, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. He gave us a tour of the kitchen before dinner along with the history of the restaurant which was fascinating. His service was excellent.
City Grille is an elegant place to dine and worth the cost.
- Pros: informative wait staff, food preparation, elegant surroundings
- Cons: none
Special event

I recently hosted a rather large reception and dinner for our extended family and friends. I was originally going to to do this at home but decided to let the professionals do it instead. I was referred to Joey at City Grill by a colleague that I work with. I called Joey and explained what I was doing and he basically took it from there. He gave me a proposal for the menu and reassured me that all of the details would be taken care of and they were! I sent a deposit and just a few phone calls between us, no worries! My guests were totally Wowed by the elegance of the restaurant and the food and service were stellar. So, if you are planning to host a special event don't do it yourself, call Joey!
- Pros: Using a Sales Manager to take care of the details
- Cons: Getting everyone to go downtown
